August 7, 2015 6:22 pm Thanks for watching this so I don't have to.
June 28, 2015 5:22 pm Welcome back ron! Damian son of batman was fun, action with a manbat, the superpower thing did not last long. My pick was Wayward, Jim Zub and company are great on that book.
June 14, 2015 7:58 pm I liked the issue of Constantine especially for the art the jacket according to the creators was an attempt to modernize the character as he is supposed to be a cool con man and not have a uniform and he shouldn't need to be attached to the no longer in style trench coat, he also wasn't bi in the tv series not even implied, the tv series one comes off as being a better person that this version but so far I only have 1 issue and an 8 page preview to go off. I also have not read the old book as I started reading around 4 years ago and it hasn't been something that I have tried to dive into yet, not really sure if it is worth starting at the beginning or what. You guys should have read Weird World, Jason Aaron and Mike Del Mundo Conan/Prophet basically and man is it fun to look at.
April 6, 2015 4:28 pm Convergence wise I am going to check out the question by Greg Rucka and Cully Hamner along with the imo can't miss Jeff Parker and Doc Shaner Shazam. I might pass on the rest, will have to see what I hear is good. I had a conversation with a Rick Remender hater at the shop this week and even he liked Black Science. That or Southern Bastards potw for sure. All New all different Avengers, if it actually ends up being done by Waid and Asrar with probably turn out to be a great book. The other characters will either be available elsewhere or will be back soon. It is really super unknown exactly how Secret Wars will pan out, hopefully it leads to some great stories being told.
April 2, 2015 2:09 pm King City is great. Prophet isn't quite done, there is a mini coming that finishes it off, called Prophet:Earth War. This mini has unfortunately been delayed often, maybe one day it will come out. I'm looking forward to Island as well but I have basically zero hope that it will come out on any sort of regular basis. I'm really starting to think that trade waiting is the only way to follow Graham.
March 24, 2015 7:55 pm I'm still reading Alex and Ada Josh, good for what it is, ends in june along with zero. This was the worst zero issue, I liked the art but sometimes Kot falls off the philosophy deep end while writing a comic. I'm reading Not Like US and digging it but I still miss Nowhere Men. :( Is anyone else reading Silk I think it was one of Marvel's better new books, solid fun story telling and very expressive art. Jim Zub's Wayward has also been very good and 10 dollar trade is out this week!
November 19, 2014 10:44 am I have heard creators say that they do not get paid until the first trade as well, this is true for series that don't sell that great. Ron Marz on Shiki for Image is one of the ones I remember reading this about. Basically you can utilize your fan base at Image. If you are a popular creator you can sell books around the 10k range which is where I have heard cited by Brandon Monteclare of where they need to be on Rocket Girl to keep pace with what him and Amy Reeder would be pulling in on big 2 books. Anything additional to that is Gravy, with popular books pulling the creators quite a bit more than a big 2 book would get them. Some Creators wouldn't have the big 2 options. Image is a place big 2 creators go to tell stories they want to tell once they have gained some audience at the big 2, it is also a place to gain recognition to get work with the big 2. Marvel and DC. Marvel and DC comics also have promotion, they are at con panels promoting the books and they do circuits of interviews with podcasts and comic media sights to promote those big 2 books. The big 2 are also pretty keen on sales as if you drop below a certain amount they will find a creative team that will sell or cancel the book and you are out a job. If creators don't like it which many of them do seem to like, then there is other deals in town at Dark Horse, Oni, Vertigo, Icon etc etc. Keep in mind if you want to be raking money hand over fist and your name isn't Robert Kirkman then you probably shouldn't be in comics.
November 2, 2014 6:45 pm Tony Akins and Goran Sudzuka for WW fill ins, a lot of it was Goran. Anyone else digging wayward by Steve Cummings and Jim Zub?
September 14, 2014 5:07 pm I went with copperhead #1 great coloring and character work. I'm finding the Futures End books that I have read are good, but don't blame them for skipping them since the last 2 gimmick months have mostly been not all that great. The Swamp thing, GA and Batgirl books were all fairly good.
June 23, 2014 1:33 pm Wicked + Divine was amazing, easily my potw. IPA's are amazing, as was the art on this Batman Eternal.
