This isn’t the James Robinson of Starman, but it’s as close as he’s been for a while. I’ve enjoyed much…

January 10, 2013 2:37 pm Jim Aparo. But also, whoever was coloring Jim Aparo's work when I started reading it. The dynamism in Aparo's action, the flowing cape, the narrow eyes and high brow, all of that defined the look of Batman for me when I started reading comics. But equally important was that blue and grey. Watching the JLA: Doom movie on Netflix the other day I noticed how much I missed the cobalt cowl and cape with the light grey tights. The dark suits the character's concept, but there's something really exciting about that color combination. And that'll always be Batman for me.
December 6, 2012 10:13 am It almost looks like Batman is giving Robin a knife for Christmas.
November 3, 2012 11:40 pm Glad to see a lot of love for Mind MGMT, Punk Rock Jesus, and a lot of other books I really dig.
November 1, 2012 11:29 pm A few months earlier and I could've said "Bulletproof Coffin: Disinterred". Alas.... It's a close call, and "Batman Inc." is a close second, but it's gotta go to The Manhattan Projects. A lot of people have already mentioned the humor, which is a good enough reason to recommend the book. But even more than that, for me, its that undertone of sadness and pessimism in each issue. It's as if Hickman is holding up exemplars of human achievement and showing all the personal failings. The last issue was so devastating, the final panel just the blackest punchline of the sickest joke. Nick Pittara's art is gorgeous, the design and production is top notch. The best book being published right now.
July 9, 2012 1:38 pm Whatever happened to Devin Grayson? She was a DC stalwart in the late 90s/early 00s, then just seemed to disappear sometime when I wasn't reading comics. Was there a minor controversy about her publishing slash featuring DC characters, or am I just making that up?
June 11, 2012 3:04 pm Say what you will about the story, but Captain Atom was one of the best looking books on the shelves. No fill-ins, no delays (at least, I don't recall any) and just consistently gorgeous. And not a small amount of that credit goes to the colorist, Jose Villarubia. Those vivid blues knock me out.
February 26, 2012 10:53 am I've really enjoyed this series, but this issue was a drag. Major story points were rushed - Colleen and Cable are teaming up with Bob and Deadpool, suddenly, and Colleen conveniently forgives Bob? - and felt contrived, especially the big reveal about Blind Al. I don't know that this happened, but it felt the title was canceled midway through this second arc, which was originally meant to be twelve issues, and now Lapham is just pushing everything towards the climax. If this was only planned as a six issue arc, then maybe the pacing could've been rethought. In any case, high hopes for next month's big finale.
December 13, 2011 9:44 pm I thought it was incredible, and well worth checking out, but I guess it depends on what you're into. Don't go looking to it for a heavy plotting and resolution, it's much more of a think piece. Pitarra's art is gorgeous, and the coloring in particular really gives the whole book a eerie feeling. That's kind of a crappy, non-committal answer, sorry. If you give it a shot, I hope you dig it!
December 6, 2011 11:14 am Probably so, there's generally enough expository material in these issues to catch new readers up. But beyond that it's just fun and crazy, you don't need much prep to enjoy that.
