I think we were all hoping this would be something a little more than it was. However, the first arc kind of made it clear it wasn’t going to be leaning heavily on the intrigue that set up the 2004 (?) Captain America run that defined the genre as Brubaker’s.
Instead, the Winter Soldier’s getting the commercial “comic” imprint: Arc-heavy and leaning “campy”. The gorilla(s) being the tac that pins the story squarely on the camp side of the corkboard…
…I think I’ll just leave the tears streaming for dramatic effect…
Still, kudos to Butch Guice for at least trying. Thanks to him, at least the tac is worn, rusty, and even smells like it’s been buried in the rubble since long before the wall came down. Some good work.
