“War of the Green Lanterns: Aftermath” hasn’t been your traditional post-event cash grab. The first issue wasn’t as shallow as some said and offered an interesting look at a Green Lantern Corps in disarray. Issue #2 continues a story that shows the corps battling the one thing they are taught to ignore or control – emotion.

I really like what writer Tony Bedard does here. While “The War of the Green Lanterns” crossover did stumble in places and had annoying release issues, when read as a whole it was pretty entertaining and brought some important consequences. Bedard captures the anger, distrust, and consternation brought on by the war. Even the Guardians find themselves struggling with swells of emotion. Bedard also puts some intriguing pieces in place that point to the upcoming DC relaunch. This certainly isn’t mandatory reading but it’s a fun story for fans of these characters.

A total of twelve artists worked on the interior of this issue and that can sometimes be a cause for concern. But here I was shocked to see the book retain a consistent look and tone throughout the issue. There are some slight differences here and there but I found the art to be well concieved and thoroughly satisfying. Nice character depictions, cool constructs, and an overall vibrant tone help cover up the few visual flaws.

This book is a lot of fun and actually carries some significance and weight. There’s some great character moments and the setup for the upcoming relaunch is intriguing. This is no cash grab. It’s a well constructed story with some solid artwork and more importantly it’s a lot of fun.
