I gave this issue 2 stars even though I love Bendis and have really warmed to Immonen on USM. You can tell that Bendis is trying to spin shit into silver with
Ultimatum, but it just such a horrible story that there is only so much
he can do. I’m assuming that the Ultimate version of Nightmare is
supposed to be enough to actually take Pete out, which is absurdity in
the highest. He might be traumatized enough to retire for a little bit,
but I can’t imagine Marvel being stupid enough to kill him outright.
The art was fine, but not too impressive. I liked the homage to Amazing
Fantasy in the middle as Immonen did a really good job reproducing
Ditko. I liked the creepiness of obsessed probably dead Dr. Strange.
There are defininte things to like about this book, but it’s just too
much underneath it that is horrible.
