This is the Transformers book I’ve been waiting for. The book is finally back to its G1 roots with character designs and a story that I can follow. After years of extremely complex Transformer character designs (especially the movie tie-ins) the characters actually look like the ones that I grew up with on Saturday mornings again. Also, the humans look human again, no more manga/anime faces with crazy expressions.

This new series has the spirit of the original G1 cartoon mixed with a gritty story that doesn’t hold anything back. Megatron has his sights set on world domination (as usual) and this time he’s truly playing for keeps and pulling no punches. Furthermore, Optimus Prime is off-line, permanently. Who will be able to stop Megatron now?

The only downside to this book is that it’s a fast read for a 3.99 price tag. If you were a fan of the original Transformers cartoon, the G1 stuff from Dreamwave during the 80s property comic book revival or have given up trying to keep up with all the Transformers books from IDW, this is the book for you.

  1. Yeah but does he transform into a gun?

I think of him as an allegory, if he doesn’t transform into a gun…

  2. Megatron didn’t transform into a gun in this issue however his character design is that of G1 with the huge cannon on his arm. I am assuming based on his robot mode that he does transform into a gun but no promises.
