This is my pick of the week, but with Justice League a very close 2nd. There are 5 chapters to this book all varying in length and each with a different artist. That might scare off a few people with so many artists on one book, but it actually works. None of it looks sloppy or rushed and really great attention to detail.

Each chapter is from the view point of different characters including Flash, Glider and Captain Cold. They make it work and is really great to see everyones point of view instead of just Flash for a change.

Francis Manapul keeps the story very action heavy and really intense (see Flash’s fight with Mirror Master) and kept me wanting more and more.

The book ends the way you kinda expect if you keep up with the books coming up in the follow months. I really recommend this to any Flash fan looking for a really great read.

  1. Agreed – Pick of the week.
Great idea having Manapul do all the breakdowns for an excellent assortment of guest pencils – especially Takara, Craig, and the new, sleeker Kolins.
Perfect jumping on point if you’re not getting this yet.

  2. I cannot disagree more! The only chapter worth anything was the first chapter and then it was downhill from there. The Manapul/ Buccellato art combo is non-existant (what a jip) in this issue, and most of the art looked like it belonged in the Ninja Warrior advertisement, and not the story. The last chapter actually hurt to read and I thought about putting it down early more than once, like when the Weather Wizard says “What the Heck?!” C’Mon! Rogues shouldn’t talk like that. Horrible waste of $5. I loved this series, bought variants and everything, and it has become mediocre shelf filler.

  3. I agree with the review and jgraff. JLA is my PotW by a tiny hair more, but this is by far the best of the annuals DC had put out so far this year and probably the best Flash comic since the re-boot.

    5 / 5 for me.

And I admit, sometimes the dialogue gets stiff or is sometimes just wrong. I have said that since my first Flash of the new 52. With a better scripter, this book would be incredible.
