So, I, much like most of people my age, started reading comics because of the early 90’s X-Men cartoon. As such my earliest Spiderman issues were the ones that led up to this story originally. I honestly didn’t care too strongly about it one way or the other as it was coming out. It was just the spidey I was given. I didn’t care how it completely threw 20 or so years of continuity in the shitter, I just enjoyed it and thought the people that were bitching were whiny fanboys. Of course that attitude has come to bite me in the ass with OMD/BND, but I digress.

This issue was just for the most part rehashing the original story. It more or less makes sense because, as the summary at the beginning said, it wasn’t the start but the finish that got effed up in the execution of this story. So I’m not going to really hold my breath on there being any significant changes to the front end of this story. I will say I don’t care for the idea of Kaine being a minion instead of a bitter independent agent, but we’ll see.

I thought the art was decent. I really didn’t like Nuack doing the Obama issue, because his spidey looked really weird to me, but it looked better here. Not a lot, but better.

A lot of the subtlety that I remember from the original story, like MJ’s pregnancy or the reveal of Ben is a lot more hamfisted here since they only have the 6 issues to do what they want.

I am looking forward to them cutting out a lot of the who’s a clone and who’s not shit that lasted about half a year in the books and was about as blatant as possible.

I didn’t really feel Nostalgia, per se, but I did remember the original story more clearly having read this. I don’t think it was horrid, but it’s the same problem I had with Secret Origin last week, it’s a story that’s been told before and I really fail to see the pint in retelling it.

Ah, whatever, it was innocuous and I’ll probably file it away and never look at it again.

Story: 2 - Average
Art: 3 - Good

  1. Yeah I think the main problem I’m going to have with this is that its going to feel very rushed since its all crammed into 6 issues…
