I found the premise of this comic very intriguing with the current state of the pharmaceutical companies dictating what we all “need” and Americans wanting the “magic bullet” for all that ails them. The Tim Sale cover and association of Heroes star Milo Ventimiglia didn’t hurt either. However, even after reading this first issue a second time it just felt like it was missing something. The basic story involves your everyday 9-5 cubical jockey who is offered the opportunity of a lifetime by his old college roommate (who happens to work for the same company as him without either one knowing it); be the test subject for a new drug in development that makes it so you NEVER have to sleep again. This issue contained a lot of plot development and hints of another coinciding story line other than John’s but it all seemed very rushed and almost forced. The characterizations and some of the dialogue was fairly stereotypical and corny but still works in the end. The art is good and has a somewhat painted “washed” look to it and is not overly realistic or cartoony. My one big problem with the writing and art is that on the last 2 pages the layouts seem to be out of order and the dialogue doesn’t seem to be in the right order either. I had high hope for this based on enjoying writer Mark Powers’s run on GI Joe but in the end something was missing from this issue for me. I think I will give the second issue a shot and decide from there if it is worth sticking with.

Story: 3 - Good
Art: 3 - Good

  1. Yes I agree with you about the last few pages but besides that I think it was very good. I gave it a solid four, I think this could turn into a very good story.
