I was terrified going into this book.

Having no idea who the writer was, I ran it near the top of my stack so I could get the bad taste of it out of my mouth if necessary.

Yet as soon as I opened to the first page and saw the excellent storytelling on the opening splash I knew there was talent here. In this book we get not only a solid stirred-but-not-shaken by recent events Babs story, we also get to see threads from Teen Titans, RIP, and Final Crisis all get woven together.

Sure, some of those story beats might have been idiotic in the first place, but we read shared universe stories for a reason, right?

And I HAVE to disagree with jstump on this: I think Babs is totally in character… or at least has MORE character this way. Think a dark version of the Absent Minded Professor and you’ll be fine. Besides, if you don’t like your superheroes being bad about keeping appointments and calendars straight you’re gonna LOATHE Barry Allen.

  1. Good review, however, I have to respectfully disagree with on that. While Barbara did have the "schtick" of being conspicuously late before, it never was in the "Absent Minded Professor" vein. It was in the "I just came from kicking ass, but I can’t tell dad so I’ll lie and say I forgot." But that wasn’t showcased in this issue. Barbara is supposed to have photographic memory, she’s supposed to be among the smartest people in the DC. She’s probably the smartest woman in the DCU. And yet, she doesn’t know what "Second Life is?" She can’t figure out that her greatest adversary is using a very unsubtle nom-de-guerre? Please, it’s ridiculous. This entire issue just felt off to me. And Legions of Batgirl/Birds of Prey/Oracle fans, too, if twitter is to be believed.

As for Barry Allen, that aspect of his character is well known and has been around since his inception. 😉
