In the typical Hickman fashion, New Avengers’ slow start can be forgiven for the high concept story teased in its pages.

Even though I’m not a fan of the Avengers, or know much about Marvel’s Illuminati, I have a lot of confidence that Hickman will surprise and delight over many years as he is known to weave huge stories that pay off big for patient readers.

I enjoyed Epting’s art — it wasn’t amazing but it wasn’t bad either. I did like the design for the new mystery villain.

Admittedly, I came into this book biased as a big Hickman fan. While not as amazing as Hickman’s Avengers relaunch, I’m confident this book will have its own amazing story and I don’t want to miss it.
