WOW!-This was a great first issue and I am very much looking forward
to the rest.  I didn’t really know what to expect going in to this, as I find Niles work to be hit-or-miss, but this was the most pleasing first issue I’ve read by Niles in awhile. The story had a wonderful energy, emphasized by
gorgeous art and unique layouts by Fiona Staples.  I was very pleasantly surprised by the story
and art being light and energetic rather than dark and
gloomy(which is what I was kind of expecting).

Staples art sits at the boundaries between being sketchy and
loose vs. tight and solid in the best way possible.  The mecha/sci-fi style elements and even some of the layouts of pages with the swooping arcs and diagonals absolutely stole the show here.  There was also an interesting reference to Edgar Alan Poe’s skull.  Can’t wait for more.

Also in
this issue you get 2 previews for additional Steve Niles comics.  What a
great package and well worth the 3.99 cover price!

Story: 5 - Excellent
Art: 5 - Excellent

  1. i agree with all your points except for one. I don’t consider previews to be added value…i would have rather had 10 pages of more story. =)
