LUKE CAGE NOIR #1 (OF 4)

Review by: Smasher

Size: pages
Price: 3.99

Out of all of Marvel’s heroes Luke Cage probably lends best to crime noir. But in a way he’s almost too good of a fit. If you’ve read Walter Mosley’s Easy Rawlins detective novels you’ll find Luke Cage Noir explores very familiar themes. To their credit writers Benson & Glass do good establishing a 1920s Harlem and Martinbrough’s pencils capture the spirit of the genre. The challenge for this series will be how they express feeling and vunerability under Cage’s near imprevious
skin so that the mystery to be solved doesn’t unravel on its own.

Unfortunately with three issues left I fear this story may be a mere shadow of what it could be.

Story: 2 - Average
Art: 3 - Good
