I think this comic is suffering from people’s raised expectations based on the concept. You put Wolverine and Hiroshima together and my mind just goes “Wow!” That’s a really great idea. I expect to see Wolverine walking around the bombed-out city, looking at reversed shadows burnt into the sides of buiildings, experiencing the horrors of the first post-nuclear city.

Instead, the actual bombing of Hiroshima is dispensed with in short order in issue 2 (and in a not very historically accurate way) and this issue is mostly about the fight between Wolverine and the indestructible dude that killed his girlfriend. It seemed rushed and inconsequential. What was here was good, but if this love story was going to work, there ought to have been more to it, more time spent.

The fight itself was pretty good, and it was a decent revenge story, but I feel like we’ve seen Wolverine put through so much in the past, I didn’t really have any suspense or expectation that the story would end any other way than the way it did. Not very satisfying. But very pretty to look at.

Story: 2 - Average
Art: 5 - Excellent
