This issue was pretty atrocious. I mean, I understand that Buddy never
was a top tier hero, and that was the appeal of why Grant made him so
interesting, but this was just really bad.

For starters, by setting this story
off in some undefined future time, I have very little investment in seeing this
story all the way through. He could be vivisected by care bears and Buddy would
still be fine in current DC. This book was trying to do an end cap for a Buddy
that, ironically, made it seem like weak Morrison wannabe stuff.

Does Buddy really need to
feel that put out for raising his voice to his wife of over 20 years? What was
the point of him fighting the director over a stunt? Did they really name a
character Bloodrage and not have Rob Liefeld involved in his creation?
Seriously, add in a death or a blow and some pouches and I think 1993 Image
will publish it for a couple years.

Really, the only redeeming thing about this
book was the art. Making Buddy older in this series could have been way over
played, but it is a credit to Chris Batista’s art that it was just a few lines
on the face a little bit of sag to his wife’s jaw. I think the San Diego was
very well done and I like the jacket since Buddy doesn’t wear leather any more.
If it wasn’t for this art, I’d have nothing good to say about this book, but as
it is, I’m just not picking up the rest of it.

Story: 1 - Poor
Art: 2 - Average
