As the first issue of a new arc it really seemed as a continuance of the over all story. To me it resembled the Captain America arcs under Brubaker, each presents a chapter of the overall story. We are introduced to Gog here, and I find the character intriguing. He seems to have good intentions, but I suspect their is an ulterior motive. The Mr. Terrific scene was great, and also helped to flesh out Amazing Man. Also this issue brings damage's arc full circle by healing his body now that his spirit has been healed. I really liked the way Johns has treated the character. A brief interlude brings Black Adam back into the picture, which I am greatly looking forward to. That character has so much potential after his mini-series that it is great to see it being tapped into by the writer who defined the character.
The art is great as well. Pasarin is a good fill-in artist for Eaglesham, but is not his equal. I liked his use of the Kirby dots to show Gog's power at work. Also there is a two-page splash by Alex Ross that is amazing visual of the origin of Gog. Also the Black Adam scene is drawn in such a powerful way that it reminds you how dangerous this man truly is.
Another great issue from Johns and company. He has hinted in interviews that the Society will suffer some division, and I have a feeling Gog is going to be at the center of it all. I can't wait until next month to see if I'm right.
