A couple weeks back, I praised J.T. Krul for elegantly telling the arrest, unmasking, and trial of Green Arrow in just one issue. I was glad that it wasn’t drawn out, overly dramatic, or filled with the mopes. Unfortunately, that’s almost exactly what this issue (and series) is all about. It was disappointing to see that elegance lacking when it came to Roy’s story. While I’m not all that familiar with the character, I feel like his rage and loathing is just a repeat of every other time he’s gotten upset. While I can understand the magnitude of his pain, I don’t need to be reminded of it by every other text box or panel. The sad thing is that it took until the last two pages to make the issue even remotely interesting with Lian’s mother appearing at the very end. Overall, this issue was just a disappointment, and I don’t know if I’ll be along for the rest of Roy’s ride.

  1. I don’t feel the need to review this because you say eveything I feel like I would have. This wasn’t awful, but yeah… the only reason I’m sticking with it is because I’m a Green Arrow completist, and this pretty much counts for that. I am nervous about Krul’s upcoming GA series, to be honest. I actually miss Judd Winick.

  2. My hope is that the GA series proper will retain the tone Krul set in the last couple issues he did.  Those issues were pretty good, so I’m hoping the new series captures that.  This series could possibly find it’s feet toward the end though.  We’ll just have to see.
