More than any work since since, this reminds me of Fraction’s Ages of Thunder. Where he has been turned loose with a book that skirts the edges of Marvel’s official continuity. It is a lengthy, giant-sized portrait of Iron’s Man’s primary nemesis, the Mandarin. In keeping with custom this modern look at a classic villain paints a nasty, visceral image that could literally turn the stomach were it remotely factual. His casual cruelty, his lies, his insane brutality, his sneering misuse of others. The art and layouts in this book are also very good, with lines that are very similar to Romita Jr’s style. A nice use of shadow and sinister lighting really sets a few of the scenes off brilliantly.

Story: 5 - Excellent
Art: 4 - Very Good
