This book didn’t start off with quite the strength I was hoping for.

The writing is fairly solid, capturing the character’s interactions and Indy’s one-liners accurately.  The pacing does not appear to be following the flow of the films as much as I was anticipating, however. Whether this is a bad thing or not is impossible to tell from this issue alone. I’d love to read a great Indiana Jones comic story once in my lifetime, and I’m still hoping this one will be it in the end.

I read online that Steve Scott’s pencils capture young Harrison Ford better than previous books, but this was not as true as I was expecting. Though the art is nice, realistic but a bit cartoony and featuring a gorgeous double-splash of 1930s New York, the characterization is not quite working at first. Strangely, this appears to get better throughout the course of the book. By the end, Ford was much more recognizable.

I’m going to keep with this book and cross my fingers for at least another issue.

  1. Agree about the art but the story was’nt that bad.  Maybe that’s because I was "jonesin" for some good Indiana Jones after that awful movie.

  2. I too want some good Indiana Jones Comics. I wasn’t interested in the art in the Dark Horse omnibi.

Did anyone read that crazy bizzare story from "Star Wars Tales", in which Indiana Jones finds Han Solo’s corpse? I dug that one for it’s audacity.

  3. I’ve heard about that! Christ, what a great concept.

I need to find that issue.

  4. @BrianBaer

The issue you are looking for is: STAR WARS Tales #19.

It’s an anthology title. The story is called "Into the Great Unknown"

It’s only 10 pages, and the story is little more that a compressed convolution allowing for Han and Indy to "meet". But it’s also has some surprisingly creative content such as the fate of Chewie.
