Hawkeye has always been the token human. In our world, Clint would be the very pinnacle of man but in the Marvel universe of Captain Americas, Iron Men and Hulks, the poor guy is forced to shoot arrows and jump around a lot (and on occasion, fly into a spaceship engine or two.)

But now we are introduced to Hawkeye in a relatively new light, one in which he shines most brightly. In this first issue he’s shown to be more in the street level tier of heroes. One filled with people who take a stand to protect their neighbors and loved ones, and this, is Hawkeye’s world.

Issue one puts him in living in a rather rough part of town and standing up for those who live in his tenement building, owned by a limited dialogue Russian stereotype. After attempting to settle the situation with Avenger Bucks, he does what he does best, all without a single arrow shot.

Fraction does an amazing job weaving the story through different time periods, aided by varying colored art by Aja. The two work together seamlessly to create an interesting, vivid world, despite it being not all that different than the one you and I live in.

If you are one of the few who like the current AvX grandiose stories, then perhaps this isn’t for you. But for all those Moonknight, Iron Fist, Daredevil and Punisher fans, pick up this book immediately, despite any previous opinions on the character, and you will not be disappointed.
