I’ve decided that I hate the Hulk.

I hate him.

One day I will try to read some of Peter David’s run on the title, because I understand that he’s done the best work with the character, but until then my mind will never change.

I’ve dropped Loeb’s title, but for some reason this book was put into my saver file at my local comic store and I couldn’t convince my retailer not to make me buy it.  I could have insisted, but I don’t want to buy a good relationship with a retailer over a unwanted one shot.

So I took this book, and did not care.  It follows a reporter tailing the Hulk and trying to write a story about him, and discovering that yes indeed Virginia the Hulk is far more than a mindless beast.  Far far more.

Sigh.

Isn’t that the moral of every Hulk story?

Far less boring, and far more awesome, was the classsic backup story which sees Angel and Iceman team up with the Hulk to fight the Master Mold Sentinel.  It’s crazy mutant crossover madness and it’s some kind of sweet Marvel magic.

I still hate the Hulk, but I’d buy a Bobby Drake / Warren Worthington book where they sit around a pool with their hot girlfriends trading quips all day.  Yup I’d buy that book even if the Hulk showed up once in awhile.

Story: 3 - Good

  1. Note: I’d like to point out that my review score is based on both the primary story which I disliked and the classic backup story which I loved.  So it comes out with an average score.
