Jason Aaron has done the impossible; he got me to read and enjoy Ghost Rider. This all started with iFanboy’s recommendation of Scalped, from there it went to the current Wolverine – Get Mystique story arc and ended with good old flame head.

The basic story line revolves around Ghost Rider finding out that the Devil was not the only person responsible for his transformation, in fact, an Angel in Heaven hoping to succeed where Lucifer failed so many years ago to take, had a hand in the deal as well. Now Johnny Blaze is searching for answers and looking for a way into Heaven to make this right.

The writing of this series is similar to Aaron’s past projects in that it is gritty, raw and sometimes over the top. It has everything you would find in a great B-horror/Grindhouse flick: the spirit of vengeance, a renegade angel, cannibal ghosts, a cult of crazy nurses, a creepy little town of rednecks, somewhat corny dialogue, dismemberment and insane action.

The art by Roland Boschi perfectly matches Aaron’s script in its grittiness and Vertigo-like style. At times it appears too sketchy for my taste but for the most part it works. Beautiful covers are provided by Marko Djurdjevic.

This issue is 2 of 4 in the story arc and there is plenty of time to catch up before the next issue comes out. Even if you have no interest in the character of Ghost Rider but like Aaron’s previous work or just a great horror story pick this up!!!

Story: 5 - Excellent
Art: 4 - Very Good

  1. I agree with just about everything, but being a long time GR fan I am ecstatic that something good is being done to him.
