I'm choosing to ignore the elephant in the room - which is easy, because the elephant just texted me that he's stuck in traffic.

To react to Max Fiumara's art in this series - I lack the terms to describe it so I'm just going to quote the dialogue accompanying the 2-page splash page that resolves the cliffhanger left over from the last chapter... Max Fiumara's art ... it's:

"A miracle. A goddamn miracle."

Joe Kelly's "I Kill Giants" also dealt with similar themes - young people having to confront the darkest trials and obstacles of the adult world. But each series has a different dynamic. In "I Kill Giants" the young protagonist retreats into a fantasy world - but in "Four Eyes" our headstrong chap charges into the real world with such courage, by the end of this issue he is disabusing the adults of their delusions and fantasies.

The conclusion of this initial 4-part arc sets up what could be an epic depression era story with a fresh genre twist, part "Augie March," part "Harry Potter". I'm eager to see where... hold on, wait a second...
