Giorello art: Gorgeous. Unfortunately Truman does most of the art in
this arc. It is serviceable, but contrasted against the few pages of
Giorello really hurts it. Maybe it is the art, maybe not, but as far as
the story goes the flashback sequences are not really thrilling me like
the present day stuff, which is awesomely grim and gritty.

Looking back
on the Dark Horse series as a whole, it seems to really live or die depending on the art. I guess there are only so many twists you can put on sword and sorcery. If you don’t have the visuals to pull you completely into the world it just kind of lays there. Most of Cary Nord, Richard Corben, Greg Ruth, Paul Lee, and now Giorello drew you into their savage and wonderful world. I respect Truman as a creator (he writes and draws and all I can do is nitpick), but I look forward to the return of Giorello as artist for all the pages.
