Issue 4 of Black Goddess, written by Mike Mignola & John Arcudi with art by Guy Davis, is not only the best issue of the current arc but one of the best issues of the entire run. This issue continues to follow the main characters trying to get Liz back from her kidnapper whilst the BPRD troops fights enemies from the start of the series.

The issue often changes in dynamics from quiet scenes inside a temple in which this arc’s villain explains his motivations to epic battle scenes in which the art is jaw-dropping.

Not to say that Guy Davis sometimes lacks in quality because that is definiatly not the case but this is the best Davis art I have seen in the series for a long time, double splash pages galore in this book that Davis fills beautifully. In aid of the art is Dave Stewart who rises to the challenge showing that he is one of the best colorists around.

The writing in the book is consistently fantastic and Arcudi continues to draw me deeper and depper into the story. This storyline is the second of a trilogy and the final part doesn’t begin until early next year but if the book continues to be as good as it has been in this issue and in the past then I will definiatly continue to read.

Story: 5 - Excellent
Art: 5 - Excellent
