Geoff Johns is one of the best writers working in mainstream comics today, and this title proves it.  Okay, granted it’s co-written by Johns but I not knowing enough Jeff Katz I’m going to give most of the credit for this brilliance to Johns.  If you are Jeff Katz I am sorry, I’m sure you helped some how I just don’t know how.

I think Johns is the key guy at DC right now, as important to that company as Bendis is to Marvel, as he seems to be crafting a wonderful cohesive universe amoungst the editorial dissaray that is modern DC.  Call it the Johns-verse maybe, but every title he’s on seems to weave in on itself and his others, with the story of the Green Lanterns mixing with Booster Gold and so forth.

Forget that though.  This could be his dud book.  I mean heck it’s Booster Gold, why in the world would a Booster Gold solo book work?  Johns can’t be that much of a mad genius to make it work, right?

Wrong.

This book is wonderful.  Having skipped the issues, becasue come on it’s Booster Gold, I picked up the trade after the singles were talked up by the iFanboys only to find that it’s a wonderful comic.  It might be the best pure comic that I’ve read in a long time, a throwback to classic superhero adventuring.  That it was a romp through some of the classic moments in DC history, which for the most part I’m only vaugely familiar with, does nothing but add to the greatness.  A rookie DC reader like myself can follow this story, nearly anyone could.

This is a damn good comic.  For finacial reasons only I’m going to stay with trades on this one, but boy I am very temped to go to issues.

Story: 5 - Excellent
Art: 4 - Very Good
