Ho hum.  This book started off with promise, quickly degraded into glorified fan fiction, and now is stuck somewhere between being a cliche and a marketing gimmick.  It’s really feeling as if this book has become nothing beyond “hey, SOMETHING happened to Batman, and we’re going to do SOMETHING about it… as soon as RIP is over!  Don’t forget to buy all the crossover issues!”.  If you’re looking for any kind of insight as to what happened to Batman and how this book fits into the conclusion of RIP, look elsewhere.  This manages to talk a lot while saying nothing, but that shouldn’t be surprising from a book that’s first issue under the RIP emblem didn’t say anything about the Black Glove, but that Batman hadn’t been seen since being carried away by some flying creature, leaving the Outsiders with uncharacteristic orders to kill it.  If there’s ever a book that suffered from the schizophrenia that comes along with a revolving door or writers, this is it.

  1. Yes, I would agree about the weak tie in with RIP. I bought the book because of the tie in, and while it was ok on its own, I didn’t really see any connection. And while a good Batgirl story, not what I really wanted to see in a team book.
