Sometimes it’s alright to walk away. To leave something just the way it is because it can’t get any better. In comics–especially in the last decade or so–we’ve seen a lot of perfect and excellent comics get revisited and unfortunately get their memories tarnished. It’s the saddest when it’s the original creative team tarnishing said memory, but I had no such fears when I heard Allan Heinberg and Jim Cheung we’re returning to Young Avengers, and I was right to have no fears.

I was in middle school when the first series came out and I was dumbfounded at how amazing it was. The characters were all so perfect and three-dimensional, the plot was incredible, and the art was like nothing I’d ever seen before. Five years later and heading to college I have the exact same feeling.

This comic is a perfect collaboration between Heinberg and Cheung. Heinberg knows these characters inside and out and does a magnificent job portraying them, and kills this opening issue with it’s magnifcent opening, plot, the jaw-dropping ending, and the brilliant relationships in this book that literally just radiate off the page but thats also thanks to Jim Cheung who is my favorite Marvel artist hands down and over the past half-decade working on other great Avenger books he’s only gotten better. There are some gorgeous panels in this book.

I can’t wait for more!
