I'm not sure if any of this would be considered spoilers, but just in case:
Well, we all complained that Mephisto was too supernatural or other-worldly for our Friendly Neighborhood Spidey, but here Peter is again, dealing with things way out of his "street-level hero" pay-bracket. Mayan incantations and demons infiltrate Spidey's world in this issue, while the worst snowstorm in years hits NYC. It does seem a little strange, but certainly doesn't take away from the "return to classic" feeling Zeb Wells has brought me with his writing. I still say that Zeb's Spidey is the Spider-Man I grew up loving, despite the influx of new supporting characters being tossed at us.
Vin Gonzolez, the Spider-Man hating cop gets a little rounded out this issue, and we can start to see the sit-com setup he and Peter Parker are going to be thrown into. Not sure what role Carlie is going to be taking, but I hope she's going to be our new love interest, she's a smart, together woman and would be a good match-up for Pete. Plus Vin obviously has something for her, so it would make an interesting love triangle down the line. Though a quick aside: Harry Osborn is back for WHAT reason again? The kid hasn't appeared in this arc yet, and has yet to bring anything at all to any story he HAS appeared in.
The funny shit is still coming without being the over-the-top silliness that Bob Gale inflicted on us during the last arc. Top notch chuckles come when Pete encounters first a homeless man who helps him bundle up for the winter, and again during Spidey's fight with a demon who we'll call Winter Solstice when they play "whose is bigger?". Also, nice little tidbit about the cold temperature's effect on Spidey's web fluid. I eat that shit up. Oh, and the Jameson bit in the beginning is a slice of fried gold!
Though...um...where's Wolverine? He doesn't show up in this issue, and the last we saw him he was going "to check up on the Doc". Weird that he would just disappear for an entire issue, after being such a big part of the last. Also, can't say I was fooled by this issue's reveal. It wasn't really unexpected.
The art is still looking good. The white borders definitely open up the page and lets Bachalo's art breathe. I also like when panels aren't actually INKED in, but are separated solely by the color. Nice stuff all around by the art team.
So..YEAH. If you're not reading Amazing Spidey, it's obvious you hate laughter and joy.
Art: 4 - Very Good
