I had been on the fence about picking this up since I get Legacy in
trades and was considering jumping off New Mutants once Zeb Wells was
done. Looking at it in the store, I finally gave in and picked up the
Alpha issue. Wish I didn’t.

I love alternate realities, I love Age of Apocalypse, I love mysterious storylines, but this issue was one huge swing and a miss
with me. It really had the feel of an unnecessary anthology issue as
opposed to the start of an event, no plot to speak of, erratic art, and no reason for
this reality to exist. And the “mystery” of “X” is practically
non-existent.

This is a HUGE PASS. I can’t imagine any
of this drivel is important once the Age of X actually gets started. My
bad, I assumed it was supposed to start here.

Do I have to give any stars?

  1. Wow, 1 and 1. It was an anthology issue set in a world we don’t know anything about yet. It would have done much better as a middle beat or break of the story. I don’t think it was a good teaser and I defeinitely not a good, get runnning start. But how could you not like the Basilisk? That alone should raise the average to 2 and 2, at least.
