This. This is what good comics are all about.

If Adventure Time is the random craziness of a sugar-filled 80s Saturday Morning cartoon, then Marceline and the Scream Queens is the mellow smoothness of a weekday afternoon syndicated show. They are monsters and strange creatures, in a band. What could be cooler than that?

This issue wraps up the ongoing struggle Marceline feels about her band, and trying to her “place.” Last issue was perhaps the best of the series, really packing the emotional punches, and this is the finale that wraps things up. As such there isn’t as much tension as things make their way back to the status quo, but it moves at a nice pace, and hey, a giant fire breathing monster is involved, so there’s that.

The pacing of the story and art work extremely well for both the humor and the emotional beats. It’s too bad that other members of the band were never truly fleshed out as characters in their own right, overshadowed by the more important Marceline and Bubblegum, but it is extremely satisfying to see these characters breathe in stories of their very own.

If you missed it in issues, do yourself a favor and pick it up in trades.

Story: 4 - Very Good
Art: 5 - Excellent
