Yeah that’s right, you read it correctly: New Warriors #1.
I’m a sucker for nostalgia and I was a big New Warriors fan back in the early ’90s in my Middle School/early High School days, plus I’m a big Nova fan. A BIG Nova fan, so anytime I see him back in the comics pages, I’m there.
That said, wow this blew.
The concept: The New Warriors sign a deal to star in a reality show that follows them fighting C-list enemies in the heartland of the US.
It could be a decent, fairly humorous concept, but the art is godawful. It’s that annoying comics version of cartoons like Teen Titans Go! or X-Men Evolution, except as far as I know, there is no cartoon of this.
The story follows the team as they film their first episode and come to terms with the deal Night Thrasher has set up for them. They bag the bad guys, decide to keep doing the reality show and even re-enact the battle for the cameras so they can get their shots.
*Sigh*
Not one of Richard Rider’s best moments. But hell, I’ll take bad Nova over no Nova at all.
It’s sad, really.
Did you read New Warriors #1? Add a comment and tell everyone what you think about this week’s comics!
this is the least enthusiastic pick of the week ever. I will never buy this!
Oh I wouldn’t advise it at all.
Use your dollars (or lack of dollars) to let Marvel know that we demand a higher quality product when it comes to Nova and the New Warriors!!
So you won’t be buying this book anymore?
well its only a 6 issue mini….
Whoa there, Mr. Moneybags
Biggest hypocrite ever. Your mouth is full of Marvel goo, as you are their prag.
I’ve got an M tattoo on my butt. 🙂
Nah, I was kidding up there, there’s no way I’m buying the rest of this series…sigh…poor Nova.
no takebacks
Dude – you keep me honest 🙂
I may not like you, but goddammit, I respect you.
Wasn’t Zeb Wells a contest winner or something?
oh god
was he?
well, again the story idea/concept wasn’t that bad (although a slight rip off of Nauck’s Wildguard) – it was the art that just hurt to look at
Marvel: “I’m going to brand you.”
Ron: “Brand me? What do you mean? You don’t brand people, you brand livestock.”
Marvel: “That’s what you are, Ron. You’re my livestock.”
HA!
who’re the big guy and the blue girl?
The Blue girl is Namorita
The big guy is a new character who apparently can talk to germs – and thats it
yes, awful.
I liked Namorita the way she was
so did we all
