NOVA #1

• The Human Rocket returns!

• You’ve followed him through the history making (and changing!) AvX and now the mystery of the all-new Nova are revealed in this breathtaking new ongoing by the best-selling, award winning team of Jeph Loeb and Ed McGuinness (RED HULK, Avengers X-Sanction).

• Sam Alexander is a kid bound by the gravity of a small town and a father whose ridiculous, drunken fairy tales about a “Nova Corps” were just another heavy burden in a life full of them. But luckily for Sam Alexander…soon gravity won’t even matter. And those troubles? It’s like they’re a billion miles away.

  1. I am crazy excited for this. Love Nova, love the idea of getting to know a new character, still love when Loeb and McGuinness team up. Good times, prepare to be had!

  2. Nova was one of my favorite titles as a kid. I’m looking forward to the new series.

  3. Loeb no, Ed McGuinness yes, Nova character yes. Yes wins, I guess I’ll give it a shot.

  4. Haven’t read much of Loeb’s stuff. Is he consider a solid writer? Walterwhite doesn’t seem to think so lol

    • If you asked say, 10 years ago… yes, he’d be considered great (Hush, the Color Books, Long Halloween, etc) if you ask now, he’s generally disliked (Ultimatum, Red Hulk, Ultimate X, Wolverine). I personally like his stuff and I’m looking forward to this.

    • I’d say he’s hit ro miss, especially now, but definitely worth a try.

    • Also, when he hits, it’s out of the park.

    • Ok cool. I’ll give it a try. Hopefully its an “out of the park” kind of book. It feels like outside of Ultimate Spidy we don’t get the young hero books anymore. This should be interesting.

  5. Kinda interested — more for McG than Loeb, but the new Nova looks so kiddish — too young. I don’t really see a young kid have outer space adventures.

  6. Very wary of this one… 70’s Nova is a fave. DnA’s Nova (Annihilation etc) is surely the Pinnacle of Nova storytelling. However, because I love the character so much I’m in issue #1.

I haven’t read a ton of Loeb, but I wasn’t jazzed by what I did read.

  7. I didn’t know this is already a established character on a Spider-man cartoon. who’s watching it and is it good?

    • It’s EXTREMELY childish and brilliant in its own rite. Netflix has it, and you MUST know, at the very least, one person who has Netflix so go now and bask in the infantile brilliance.

    • I don’t like it because it feels like a team series (he’s always fighting with White Tiger, Iron Fist, Nova and Cage) and I prefer Spider-Man to have most solo adventures with single team ups here and there.

    • It is aimed squarely at younger audiences but, as thumper said, it’s really pretty great if you don’t mind that. I’m a big fan.

  8. I really enjoyed this. It felt like reading a 1st issue from the 70’s, in the best kind of way. I’m in for the long haul.

  9. This was good old fashioned fun.

  10. I liked it a lot more then I thought I would, I’m down for the first arc.

  11. I read it and liked it more than I thought, and I thought I’d like it. Also… Rocket as drawn by McGuiness? That’s a bingo.

  12. Unlike others, I didn’t really dig it. Felt VERY cliche. Perhaps it will pick up steam once they’re in space.

  13. I am going to keep an open mind on this one. VERY cliche is an appropriate description. The plot felt very “The Last Starfighter”-ish. That might have been good in 1984, maybe not great in 2013. But, like I said, I am still willing to give this a shot. I miss Nova…any Nova. That being said, based on what was shared so far, the story left room for Richard Rider to still be out there…which is good news.

  14. I am such a fan of Abnett and Lanning’s run on Nova that I was worried about this. I like that they introduced a seperate Nova division so they don’t really contradict any of the old run. I look forward to more explanation about the “black domes” and the “gold domes.”
