Warning: THE MUPPETS Trailer May Cause Full-Body Flailing

Here's the thing.

There are Muppet comics. Amy Adams is going to be in Superman: The Man of Steel next Christmas. And in this life, joy is often hard to come by.

Thus, we present the all new trailer for The Muppets.

The film is written by star Jason Segel and Nicholas Stoller, his partner on the very funny Forgetting Sarah Marshall. It's directed by James Bobin, co-creator of HBO's Flight of the Conchords series. One of the Conchords (Brett McKenzie) even wrote the songs.

Look for it in theaters this (American) Thanksgiving.

Comments

  1. It’s not easy being green.

    I’m all over this.

  2. It looks like this is gonna break into songs randomly AND they’ll cop out to it. Nice.

Also, I’m glad that it’s the same voices because with all the celebrities listed on imdb I thought for a second they were going to be the muppets.

  3. Can’t wait.  This looks amazing.

  4. Best trsiler I’ve seen in YEARS! Even I was thinking you guys linked to the wrong movie, lol

  5. I love the way they shot the trailer, where for a moment, I was thinking Paul had imbedded the wrong video.

  6. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. So fun.  Can’t wait for this.  YOu shoulda posted that full one sheet image (they made fun of it on SNL) that shows all the muppets feet. It looks so weird!

  8. Love love love love. I am so happy right now.

  9. yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaY!

  10. I’m so worried. I really lilke Jason Segal’s work and think he is funny but you don’t understand. The Muppets are the most infulential people/movies/things in my entire life. My sense of humor and entire outlook on life was formed by watching the Muppet’s shows, movies and babies.
Heck I even do a muppet themed trick in my Magic Show with clucking chickens, a Gonzo doll and appearing eggs. Seriously, that is not a joke!

  11. Its going to be great!

  12. Now THAT’S a trailer.

  13. MUPPETS!

  14. As much as I’m counting down the days to see the movie, I may be even more excited about the promotional juggernaut it’s going to set in motion. Stuff you haven’t been able to get your hands on in years is going to be in every Target in the country. I heard about the push the movie was getting and my first thought was “Finally, here come the rest of those box sets!”

@Jimski  Was thinking the same thing. Muppet merch!

  16. How can you not love a Muppets Movie?! Its just natural to want to see this.

  17. Like everybody else, I was thrown by the first few minutes.  Looks like a lot of fun.

  18. I’m excited for this movie, I loved Forgetting Sarah Marshall, but this trailer didn’t do it for me. Surprised they buried the lead for so long before getting to the muppets. At a 1:30 long trailer. to wait till 1:00 to get the muppets. I don’t know, I was expecting something better. Pirates of the Caribbean coming back after 4 years had a bigger announcement trailer then the muppets coming back after ten. Ah well, again I’ll see it.

@Jurassicalien  It’s a fakeout, backdoor trailer. I fully expect a the second trailer to fully play up the Muppet content.

  20. Totally fooled me. Grrr!

  21. @Jurassicalien  See them screwing with the trailer like that made it feel more classic muppets to me. Also I figured it was a “teaser” being that short.

  22. i has always hated the fucking muppets. how’s that for trolling

  23. I kinda like the way AICN handled this by teasing it was in fact a rom-com.  The fact that the Muppets show up in the middle was a complete surprise.

Kinda think you may have ruined that surprise by telling people what the trailer actually was.  But, that’s a nitpick.

    Super excited for this!

  24. And people worried about Segel being a good fit for the Muppets should know that the Dracula Muppet Musical in Forgetting Sarah Marshall was all his own thing that they decided to put in the movie.  His enthusiasm and smarts I think will help him shine with this, and I think this will be the project that makes people take him a bit more seriously.  Personally, I’m happy when I see any of the Freak and Geeks move out from the Apatow shadow.

  25. As I told a friend of mine, green felt may not save the world, but it can make it a little happier place.

  26. This is amazing. Amy Adams is the very definition of “adorable.” Jason segal is funny as Hell. And the Muppets are probably the greatest thing ever.

  27. How can this not make you smile?

  28. @spaceghost15  After a confession like that, I feel my eyes welling up and slowly opening my arms to give you a great big hug.

That, and the aternating feeling like I should slap you… maybe I’ll just offer both.

Great comment and a fun-looking trailer, but I wonder why new ideas often don’t seem to make it to the theatres any more… and the overwhelmingly positive comments on this thread seem to say why: because nostalgia is more important than fresh material.

But to be honest, if my nieces wanted to go, I’d go with them, in a 70’s-era Kermit T-Shirt while shreaking like a little girl everytime Animal appeared on screen. It just occurred to me that I know how to impersonate most of the characters… but Fraggle Rock was more fun to watch because it was the subterranean Moloid version of the Muppets.

    I’m such a hypocrite.

  29. Yay! Just yay. Nothing else needs to be said.

  30. great trailer.

  31. This trailer is designed with a captive audience in mind, ie. theatre audiences, not the people who view trailers on the internet who click away from them after 10 seconds if they seem “boring’.

  32. yes yes yes yes YES! I love the muppets!

  33. Best Picture Nominee?  I can see it now …

  34. @spaceghost15  , I’ve been disappointed with most of the Muppet material since Jim Henson died.  His sense of humor was so very special, unparalleled, and unmatched.  I want to be able to look forward to this movie, but Muppets from Space simply didn’t have the magic for me.
