I think at this point it's safe to say that next week's season finale is going to hit a big number.

Talk about the show itself here. Talk about the ratings below.

Comments

  1. Kirkman’s gonna need a bigger money bin.

  2. @Slayer – Depending on the contract he negotiated for the show. 😉  I believe I heard him say he’s not rich yet.  But I bet he will be one day soon.

  3. Shocking! Can hardly believe it, I need to see this show 🙁

  4. Congrats to Kirkman and everyone involved. I was quite fearful that this would tank, even though it’s good. I’m surprised and delighted.

  5. AMC was the right move. for sure. Great news for episodic TV for grown-ups all across the dial.

  6. Now that’s money you can take to the bank.

    The money bank!

  7. Good to see the show is getting high numbers.

  8. Wow, so this really is a true adaptation of the comic book, with sales(comic)/ratings(tv) going from one issue/episode to the next.

  9. Meant to say “…going up from one issue/episode to the next.” I remember the comic sales just kept climbing.

  10. Am loving that poster. Was it used in any of The Walking Dead comics?

  11. @Jordan0061: The inspiration for the poster comes from a panel about a third of the way through the first trade if I remember correctly. It’s a seriously accurate recreation.

  12. Seriously this show just keeps getting better even though its not sticking with the comic I’m still loving it!

  13. Kirkman can now afford a bigger, more expensive beard to go along with all the success.

  14. With 5.6M viewers, it seems like this show might be attracting better commercials.  It seemed like most of the commercials were geared toward older people.  Does anyone know how far in advance they sell spots?

  15. That’s impressive.  Kirkman may well be the richest creator (in any discipline) in Kentucky.  It’s always nice to see the good guys win.

  16. Just curious. I DVR the show every week. Do I get tallied into that total as well? Probably a dumb ass question, but I never think about these things unless they directly relate to my life, or what interests me.

  17. @Unoob: Only if you’re a Nielsen household.

  18. @stuclach  Naw. Someone has the Kentucky bourbon distilleries.

  19. @Conor- Thanks. I can’t believe that in this day and age with all the computer this, and digital that, that they are still using Nielsen. Good Lord! They used that to tell ratings since I was a wee little Noob. And I’m ANCIENT!

  20. @Unoob  It’s beyond ridiculous but there are so many complex issues involved in getting more accurate viewership measurements. From what I understand every network and advertiser could have near 100% accurate numbers on what people are watching on their digital boxes but there are privacy and proprietary issues involved.

  21. @Conor- I am blown away. It’s like hearing someone is still using beta. Or that your Doctor never stopped using leeches. Thanks for the 411.

  22. @zombox  Do you consider that person a creator?  If you ignore that, we can start listing basketball coaches.

  23. Neilsen system is really funny. My old coworker is a Neilsen household…she told them she never watches TV, only has rabbit ears and they still insisted on giving her a box and paying her a monthly stipend to have it in her house. She maybe watches the news once in a blue moon. Yeah its pretty accurate…

That being said the last thing i want is big brother getting all “TSA” on my cable box. That’s too slippery of a slope to even think about.

  24. I learned about Neilsen in a class last semester. It’s very complicated and also pointless in a lot of ways. A lot of shows seem to have died off because Neilsen can’t even trust it’s own system to figure out the numbers.

  25. (Note to self, wallythegreenmonster knows too much about the slippery slope.)

  26. Does anyone know when season 2 is scheduled for? Please tell me it’s not next fall.

  27. @powerdad  –i feel like there is a “thats what she said” joke in that comment somewhere. =)

  28. @DarthRob  As of right now? Next Halloween-ish.

  29. @wallythegreenmonster  Frankly with my joking track record, I’ll go for any sort of joke I can get!  HAHahaha!

  30. (Hahaha…”that’s what she said“…it’s still cracking me up.)

  31. @darthrob–if you watch any HBO shows like Trueblood you get used to such things. Still sux though….
@powerdad—well as long as you don’t start stealing miniature jokes from the powerkids you’ll be ok. =p

  32. I should finish walking dead…. I got spoiled something fierce the other day by Around Comics (those bastards….).

  33. Excellent!

  34. @stuclach I like to think of it as a collaborative effort.

  35. With this becoming the ratings smash that it is, I wouldn’t be suprised if they moved Season 2 to the summer. I love that the show is a success, but it’s so weird to be asked by the housewife at my work if I watched “The Walking Dead” last night, or seeing WD trades at Wal-Mart. I used to be just something me and my friends knew about.  Congrats to all involved that it’s such a success.

  36. @zombox  Agreed.

  37. It’s an overnight sensation, 5 yrs in the making. The great indie comic that made it to the big time/ mainstream. He should get a building named after him in Lousville. So cool and weird such high art made it big and it’s creator is from KY. It’s funny and ironic thou I’m not trying to poke fun since I lived 2 yrs in a small town in KY and it’s people were super cool to me and my family. High fives to all!

  38. @nate–they still have to film and produce the 2nd series…not so easy to move up by that many months.

  39. The long wait would be easier to take if they just had a fill in show to air on Sundays. Say “Y: The Last Man”. Let’s hope other networks are paying attention.

  40. After seeing this episode, I wonder why they didn’t try and go to the CDC in the comic. It make s sense. To check it out. Looks like the show is saying that zombification is caused by a virus.

  41. @wallythegreenmonster  I know it just seems so long. Burn Notice was like that also

  42. @DarthRob  –totally with you. Besides Football, TWD is the best part of my Sundays…its gonna be a bit sad when its done with. The wait will be awful.
