Threadless Comics T-Shirt Design Challenge

Our favorite t-shirt purveyors over at Threadless are running a Comic T-Shirt Design Challenge.  You might remember our chat with the Comics-On-Tees folks back at C2E2, with Jill Thompson, Art Baltazar, and Cliff Chiang.  On the heels of that project, which has already started, you can enter your own comic book inspired t-shirt design.

And if that wasn't enough, the winning design will be worn by a character in an upcoming issue of Chew, as well as be eligible for a whole bunch of prizes outlined on the site.  Also, any designs submitted will be eligible to be printed as a Threadless t-shirt.

So even if you're not a great t-shirt designer, you can still benefit from any great designs that come out.  Make sure and go vote for your favorite.

  1. Oooh! I will totally spend several hours designing a shirt for no payment and a potential opportunity for my design to be drawn on a character appearing in a low print run comic book!

Gah! I hate how people get away with asking for free graphic design work!

  2. Josh does mention that that the winning design will be both "produced as a t-shirt AND be worn…." in the pages of Chew. I’m sure the winner will be compensated in some way from the shirt sales. If they are not compensated in that way, the website lists all the prizes for the winner which includes:

    • $2,000 in cash from Threadless
  3. @JJ – I adjusted the copy a little bit.  There are a buttload of prizes, and all entries can be eligible to be printed as shirts.  Like all Threadless t-shirts, you submit a design and if it’s printed, there’s profit sharing. Also, it’s a damned contest, and it’s supposed to be fun. It’s hardly slave labor.

  4. C’mon. It’s just fun. And yeah, there’s an assload of prizes. This is hardly The Man sticking it to the Lowly Artist.

  5. @Josh: I’ll take it off-line.

  6. well at least you don’t have to pay to enter . . .

  7. Sounded like a fun contest to me–and the prizes are pretty sweet. Not to be a shill (even though I am), here are my entries:,pumatastic

  8. Very nice stuff!

  9. @Pumatastic – Especially love the Steranko-style one.
