We have ourselves a contender, folks.

  4. @conor  You took the words out of my mouth. Damn that look’s badass.

  5. I’ve watch this trailer three times now and I seriously cannot wait for this movie the more I see of it.

  6. apparently brooklyn goes hard

  7. Is that music from Tool?

  8. So awesome. And it sounds like they’ve got the humour right as well. Really looking forward to this.

  9. Yes please.

  10. Not bad, still want to hear more Red Skull, but still this may just out do Thor.

  11. Bra-vo!  Even if the rest of the movie doesn’t measure up, that one scene locked it for me.

  12. YES!!!!

  13. Is it July yet?  I need to see this movie.

  14. I was cautiously excited for this movie before. But holy crap, it’s gonna be a long four weeks!

  15. Oh, and love the Bruno Mars reference.

  16. Is it July 22nd yet???!!!!

  17. I remember before Dark Knight came out that Josh said there’s was no way it’d be a bad movie and, if it is, it’s going to be a spectacular failure.  I say the same applies with Cap and I hope it goes the way of the Dark Knight.

  18. OMFG. This looks amazing

  19. That’s it!!!  I AM SOLD!!!!

  20. This movie keeps looking better and better. I’m crossing my fingers that this might be the first year since 2003 that I will add two superhero movies to my collection.

If this works, I can retire my Rocketeer/Shadow/Phantom/Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow discs.

  21. its confirmed….they’re bringing the awesome. Everything about this looks so great! I love Hydra as the Nazi’s black ops science division. Nice way to tie those together.

  22. Getcha some!!!

  23. This is gonna be bigger than Iron Man and THOR put together … and … gotta say it …

That was a friggin’ AWESOME scene with the grenade … but they should NOT have spoiled that with the TRAILER!

  24. @coleman  YES!! “Forty Six & 2”!!

  25. that grenade scene? yeah they NAILED Steve Rogers

  26. Fan-FREAKING-tastic.

  27. they are hardly showing the red skull in these trailers….which sucks cause i want to see more:)

  28. Now I’m officially MORE excited for this film!

  29. Looks great..but I hate trailers that show too much..I’m sold..now leave something for the movie

  30. Can I also add, Bucky looks badass.

  31. As a long-time Cap fan (I’m not just a DC guy), this looks GREAT! I can’t wait. If the movie holds up, it could be the best super-hero movie ever.

  32. I was already sold on this but damn it looks great.

  33. It’s so good, I’m excited without having seen it!!!!

  34. Merry Christmas!

  35. This might will make me read a Cap book.

  36. So. Giddy

  37. @captbastrd  nice. I thought I detected that familiar progressive melody. Kind of badass for them to include that in an already fantastic trailer.

  38. 46 and 2!!! Never heard a Tool song on a movie trailer

  39. Conor beat me to it.

  40. Oh and the movie looks cool as well

  41. All in on this one!  Gonna be very surprised if this is anything less than awesome.

  42. Well that was a good trailer. Hope the film is good.

  43. #1. There are no “Nazi’s” in this film, they are called Hydra. PC and all that shit.
#2. I saw the trailer in 3D at the theater and it looked great with the shield flying around.
    #3. I got a chubby!

  44. @ccarney  They said in the trailer that Hyrda is a division of the Nazis.

  45. I’ve been anxiously awaiting a second trailer. I’ve actually enjoyed all three summer comics movies but Cap is a favorite of mine. This trailer makes me feel all warm inside!

  46. Oh, and did we see a bomb attached to a drone close to the end? Hmmm

  47. @conor  My bad I missed that! I swore that Marvel made a fuss that there wasn’t going to be any Nazi refrences.

  48. @ccarney  Holy Jebus Crap! That was EXZACTLY what I was waiting for! To see what makes Steve Rogers Captain America! Oh god, please come now! Also, I also have that Mighty Mugg.

  49. I was worried about this movie a little bit, but now……IT LOOKS AWESOME. I can not wait to see this.

  50. Movie looks better than I expected. Really the only think I didn’t like was the choice of having Tool as the music. Seemed very out of place for a period piece.

  51. @bpepple  I think the music was more in support of the character. No pun intended, but it’s progressive and the character goes through change so and he gets more badass as time goes on. I could be reading into that way too much but that’s what I kind of get out of it.

  52. Holy shit. This is looking damn near perfect.

  53. So freaking awesome! O_O really looking forward to this now. didn’t know the Super Soldier program was cut short just seconds after Steve Rogers got in.

  54. Looks awesome, I love Cap!!! Looks like Chris Evans has the shield battle motions down that will make for some classic stills and the effects on the shield being thrown look great too!!

  55. I loved the Tool music for the trailer too, suited the anticipation and momentum. As a period piece, I’m sure that music will stay in the trailer and not the film.

  56. USA! USA! USA!

  57. It looks like they’re not going to shy away from the WWII elements. It’s not quite Band of Brothers meets Captain America, but I am definitely excited for it.

  58. Now that I actually read the meaning behind 46 & 2, the song makes complete sense, and kind of even more badass. – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forty_Six_%26_2 – I need to stop using the word badass.

  59. Anybody notice that he has the triangular shield at one point in the trailer?

And, of course, the Skull is waving around a cosmic cube.

  60. @ccarney  It’s at the 1:21 mark:

“Hydra is the Nazi deep science division led by Johann Schmidt.”

  61. Somebody better utter the line “They saved Hitler’s brain” somewhere in this franchise.

  62. Awesome. This almost makes me wish I was American. 🙂

  63. Awesome

  64. USA! USA! U… oh, wait, I’m not American… Aah, what the hell! USA!

  65. Add any tool song to a trailer and I’m instantly in.  Badasswickedawesomefuckya.

  66. I think I just joined the army.

  67. “Heroes Are Made In America”. Clearly not the international trailer… looks like they may have nailed this one. The definitely got his WW2 costume right. Looking forward to seeing his Avengers costume.

  68. This looks epic. and as many people have already mentioned: Tool in the trailer? Oh yeh.

  69. @JSAkid  I really hope its not in the film.  That would be very out of place.

  70. I’ve watched this over 20 times…I could cut glass right now…

  71. I want to go to there.

  72. “Nothin’. I’m just a kid from Brooklyn.” Gold!!

  73. I’ve been most psyched about this movie this summer. After the GL let down, this has me pumped!

  74. They got it.  They totally got it.  The tone.  The look.  The feel.  This movie should be amazing.  I almost wish I hadn’t seen that because now my expectations are so high I can only be disappointed.

    Nah, I won’t be disappointed.

  75. we salute you.

  76. Well if the movie is as good as the trailer then this is going to be freakin’ awesome!!!  CAN NOT WAIT!!!!

  77. I want to go to there.

  78. Ok…I’m on board!

  79. HOT DAMN!!

  80. Hella. Yes.

  81. Holy monkey mother of pearl!  Somewhere a bald eagle just got a hard on.  I’m gonna watch the shit out of this movie.

  82. Yes! Awesome!

  83. Sweet Christmas!

  84. Easily the greatest trailer of them all (the superhero/comicbook flicks for this year). Seriously, I feel like a kid again. However, as awesome as it is, I am still slightly disappointed that it appears that the Nazis are going to be reduced to a whisper of a mention. I know, I know. Wait for the film. I guarantee that I’ll be there opening week. Maybe even twice! I still will wish for some straightup Nazi bitch slappin’! Why? Because some of the greatest comicbooks came into existance because of the scum. 😀

  85. Take notes warner brothers that’s how you do comic films.

  86. I hate Nazis!!!

  87. Fuck to the yes! This should’ve been the first trailer!

  88. I’m digging their explanation for Hydra, deep science division.  I just wish there were big yellow/gold H’s on their chests.

  89. I love that he’s doing a slight brooklyn accent in that first scene in the car. Evans won’t be doing Johnny Storm wearing Red White and Blue.

  90. this trailer with footage and effects that hadn’t been filmed yet should have been the first trailer.

  91. WOW!….’nuff said

  92. Jesus… They’re really gonna pull this off, aren’t they?

    Can. Not. Wait.

  93. i need a change of pants.

also anyone notice at 2:12/2:13, somone, likely cap, riding on top of some crazy looking missile!  Just mor signs they are doing this right!

  94. what does ‘deep science’ mean?

  95. @ccarney  They have to be careful with Nazi references … not that German revenue is going to make or break this film, but display of Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany.

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/8163918.stm

  96. I think it’s fine as long as said symbols are not promoting Nazism which this movie obviously wouldn’t be.  It probably just has more to do with merchadising.  There might be a bit of a tizzy if you releasing a Red Skull action figure with Nazi gear.  Moms would probably feel better if their kids were playing with Cap beatting on bad guys bearing the HYDRA logo than a Swastika.

  97. @Tork  I’m sure it is fine too. But, inasmuch as anyone actually cares (and who knows how many Germans will actually view the film) to the best of my knowledge it is illegal to display the swastika or the Nazi salute in Germany. So if Marvel wants to actually SHOW the film in Germany (without having to blur portions of the visuals out), then those two symbols simply cannot be included. It isn’t something about which Marvel has a choice. Whatever anyone may think about censorship or the usefulness of avoiding discussion of Germany’s Nazi history (something which Germans themselves have actually been quite diligent about over the decades) or some imagined political correctness governing this particular editorial choice is beside the point. Those two symbols simply cannot be displayed.

  98. It isn’t illegal if it’s not used to promote Nazism.  The swastika itself isn’t illegal, only the context in which it is used if it is used to celebrate Nazism.  Der Untergang, a film that shot a lot in Germany, features a lot of Nazi iconography but since it clearly isn’t celebrating the Nazis, it’s fine.  Germany has decided for a long while that, if the use of Nazi iconography isn’t promoting the Nazis (like a movie where they get whomped on), then it’s safe to use.  The clarification was put in place so that anti-Fascist material in Germany wouldn’t be subject for censorship simply by showing what they’re fighting against.

  99. Sheesh! It IS illegal … unquestionably illegal … there is wiggle room for Germans who DOMESTICALLY produce for scholarly purposes … but there is NO wiggle room regarding the IMPORTATION of the swastika …
Source #2: Wikipedia … “except for scholarly reasons …” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swastika#Germany
    Source #3: or … here’s the actual text of the law … http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strafgesetzbuch_§_86a …
§ 86a StGB Use of Symbols of Unconstitutional Organizations
    (1) Whoever:
    1. domestically distributes or publicly uses, in a meeting or in writings (§ 11 subsection (3)) disseminated by him, symbols of one of the parties or organizations indicated in § 86 subsection (1), nos. 1, 2 and 4; or
    2. produces, stocks, imports or exports objects which depict or contain such symbols for distribution or use domestically or abroad, in the manner indicated in number 1, shall be punished with imprisonment for not more than three years or a fine.
    (2) Symbols, within the meaning of subsection (1), shall be, in particular, flags, insignia, uniforms, slogans and forms of greeting. Symbols which are so similar as to be mistaken for those named in sentence 1 shall be deemed to be equivalent thereto. […]
  100. Didn’t they release Inglourious Basterds in Germany?  I’m pretty sure they did.

  101. From what I understand, Germany now allows the Swastika for educational, scientific, or artistic reasons (and film fits under that last one including American ones like Inglourious Basterds and Indiana Jones) so in theory Captain America could fight Nazis but they chose not to emphasize, possibly because of the social stigma it’d still bring in Germany and I’m still sure the toymakers don’t want to have to deal with swastika on their action figures all over the world.

And I will leave it at that.

  102. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inglourious_Basterds#Censorship

Universal Pictures censored the film’s German publicity website, as the display of Nazi iconography is restricted in Germany. The title has theswastika removed and the steel helmet has a bullet hole instead of the Nazi symbol.[68] The download section of the German site was revised to exclude wallpaper downloads that feature the swastika openly.[69] Though the advertisement posters and wallpapers must not show Nazi iconography, this does not apply to “works of art” according to German law, so the film itself is not censored in Germany.[70]

  103. Well, there you go.

  104. Yeah … there you go … so … do you wonder why Marvel seems to have opted NOT to include the swastika in their film? I wonder, might it have something to do with the fact that, despite its status as a “work of art” Captain America might ALSO be regarded as an instance of propaganda? No … I’m sure they can’t possibly have had any conversations about that. On second thought, hmm … I bet they did. Gosh … the only three reasons I can think of that they have chosen NOT to display the swastika are (1) It wasn’t a creative choice that anyone felt comfortable with, (2) they believe it wouldn’t be legal and (3) they concluded it wouldn’t be in their financial interest to do so.

  105. @cahubble09  I’m pretty sure the swastika is still gonna be in the movie, just not on the posters or in the trailers

  106. Avatar photo PymSlap (@alaska_nebraska) says:

He’s awfully tan on that poster. This should be a fun movie. Will make for a fun double-feature with “Friends With Benefits.” Big movie weekend.

  107. @RoiVampire: I doubt they’ll be emblazoned across the screen. Based on the images already floating around the internet, any displays of Nazi symbols will likely be small, unobtrusive and difficult to spot. All the military materiel I’ve seen in pre-release images on the internet have either lacked any symbols at all or bore the Hydra symbol. And in the one shot I’ve seen where a swastika may have been present, the image was so small it was difficult to ascertain whether it really was a swastika or if it was an iron cross.

  108. @cahubble09  –i think that is one of the most misunderstood laws on the internet. From what i understood, the Indiana Jones franchise never had a problem with nazi stuff in Germany, but i could be wrong. From what i’ve read Germany is more lenient in entertainment as long as it doesn’t glorify Nazis…and they don’t want it used in Political contexts or used as collectibles like it is in America.

  109. @wallythegreenmonster: I agree, but I also think (based only on images from the film currently available on the internet) that the creators have made a strategic choice to understate any Nazi symbolism in the film. The “work of art” carve-out clause mentioned above doesn’t constitute license to, as you say, glorify. This is something about which Germans remain particularly sensitive. There is no ambiguity in the verbiage of the law.
