The Best of the Week in Panels – 09.15.2010

It's got panels. It's what plants crave.

Our Fighting Forces

By B. Clay Moore, Chad Hardin, Wayne Faucher, David Curiel, & John J. Hill

I was thinking exactly the same thing, Sarge! Needless to say, the issue picked up considerably after this.

— Josh Flanagan

DC: Universe Legacies #5

By Len Wein, George Perez, Scott Koblish, Rob Liegh, & Allen Passalaqua

That kid's got quite a future as a comic book internet message boarder.

— Conor Kilpatrick

Mystery Society #3

By Steve Niles, Fiona Staples, & Chris Mowry

I have one word to say about this panel, and by extension the series: Yes.

— Josh Flanagan

Time Bomb #2

By Jimmy Palmiotti, Justin Gray, Paul Gulacy, Rain Beredo & John J. Hill

For the record, nothing — NOTHING — good ever happens after a bunch of Nazis ask you this question.

— Conor Kilpatrick

Astonishing Spider-Man & Wolverine #3

By Jason Aaron, Adam Kubert, Mark Roslan, Justin Ponsor & Rob Steen

I'm a sucker for multiple page gatefolds. This one by Adam Kubert is gorgeous. Not only is it gorgeous but from a storytelling perspective it does a wonderful job of showing the immensity of what Wolverine is up against.

  1. Awesome. That gatefold was amazing. Love all of these. I would have included the page where Spidey is swinging toward all those choppers in the new ASM

  2. Ok this is the second time that Mystery Society has shown up here looking curiously odd and exceedingly hilarious. This time I commit to going back and re-ordering…

  3. "Because it’s dark and icky" is still a lot more verbose than the average message board poster.

  4. It looks like he is squaring off against the Death Star with eyes.

  5. So which green arrow costume is she talking about…?

oh hang on … it must be the dark and icky one, obviously.

  6. The fact that Wolvie is standing on the flame of the fallen Statue of Liberty while going up against Doom may be a little ‘cheap’ or ‘easy’ but I am a sucker for it.

  7. When I read the panel from Our Fighting Forces last night, it was one of those moments where I went: "I bet this gets panel of the week". I was hoping you’d make the exception for the whole page. Definitely one of the most badass pages in comics this week.

  8. I can’t help but notice the doll sitting on the chair as she says she doesn’t like Green Arrows concert.

My Comic Shop didn’t get Astonishing Spider-man and Wolverine, which depresses me greatly now.

  9. re: "For the record, nothing — NOTHING — good ever happens after a bunch of Nazis ask you this question."

I dunno, I once had a fascinating conversation with some Nazis following that question. We discussed Hegel’s comprehensive philosophical framework as a precursor to Marx and it’s lingering effects on the postmodern European realists while enjoying some fine Cuban cigars and a sublime English Barleywine. It was, all in all, a capital evening.

Of course, the next morning I awoke and had their compound hit with multiple daisycutters, thereby eradicating their evil from the face of the earth. They may have been cultured and refined, but they were still bloodless, hateful fascists after all.

  10. oh crud, i totally missed mystery society….been waiting for that issue!

  11. I loved the gatefold layout in ASMW. I haven’t read Time Bomb #2 yet but I have a feeling I’ll get around to it today.

  12. Kubert has outdone himself with the Astonishing Spider-Man/Wolverine series. Why isn’t he drawing more books?
