Teaser for Spaceman, New Series from Azzarello and Risso

Some teamups just work, and they work every time. Stan and Jack. Grant and Frank, Denny and Neal. Jeph and Tim. Garth and Steve. Alan and Dave. And so on.  One of those relationships is Brian Azzarello and Eduardo Risso, whose work on 100 Bullets, and several other collaborations, is always a thing of fluid connection and idealogical harmony.

Now they're coming back, with Spaceman, a new series from Vertigo.  So far, details are very limited, but look for it in 2011, and take a look at this image, as well as a conversation (they said it was real) between Brian Azzarello and editor Will Dennis.

AZZ: I got an idea for a new series.
ME: What’s it called?
AZZ: SPACEMAN.
ME: SPACEMAN? Is that one word or two?
AZZ: It’s one. Like SUPERMAN.
ME: It’s like SUPERMAN?
AZZ: No! It’s like SUPERMAN but not like SUPERMAN.
ME: So what’s it about.
AZZ: A spaceman. What the hell else would it be about?
ME: Right. And it’s with the entire 100 BULLETS team?
Azz: That’s the plan.
ME: Cool. Can we get it out in 2011?
AZZ: Why the hell not?
ME: Book it.

The team and and the title are enough to get me excited alone.  Risso was one of my favorites back when I first got into comics, and there's simply no one out there who draws like he does.  We'll give you more details when we have them.

Comments

  1. Neanderthals go to space.

I love Risso’s work; it also stands out and the man can tell a story. That Azzerello guy isn’t too bad either!

  2. It’s not much, but I like what I see!

  3. Sold!

  4. FUCK YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. @vadamowens I concur…

  6. Grown up Spaceboy from Umbrella Academy?

  7. Avatar photo Paul Montgomery (@fuzzytypewriter) says:

Is it like the age-old question: Who would win in a fight, a caveman or an astronaut?

  8. @onasunday lol. I knew I’d seen that guy somewhere:D It’s an uncanny resemblence.

  9. I’m almost done reading 100 Bullets in trade, so the thought of following a new story of theirs month-to-month is definitely exciting.

  10. Man, I’m excited. I could still use another 100 issues of 100 Bullets.

  11. 100 Bullets is such a damn good series and so I’m naturally beyond stoked about this.

  12. Yup

  13. I can dig it.

  14. I’m sorry *snicker* but I still laugh when I see the name “Risso”. I keep thinking Rizza/RZA like at any moment the man will bust rhymes out of nowhere.

  15. Cannot wait. Everything this team has done together has been excellent.

  16. How about this metaphor-

    Encino Man in space.

    Huh?
