Sexual Frustrations, X-Men Style

The romantic difficulties between Rogue and Iceman in X-Men: The Last Stand got the attention of Wired‘s Sex Tech columnist who thinks that Rogue and Bobby didn’t need the mutant cure, rather just some imagination and toys.

NOTE: This may be a bit racy for those under 18 (I’m looking at you Spidermav!) and is possibly not appropriate for a work environment. Also, it has slight spoilers to the movie, but we’ve beaten that into the ground already here I suppose.

Now, I love the X-Men and all, but I think that this specific exploration is probably best left unspoken… but that’s just me.

Comments

  1. I totally agree with this column. I’ve thought this way for years – it’s stupid that in this day and age there weren’t some non-traditional/conventional things that Rogue could do to have a good time.

That has always bothered the hell out of me.

  2. You know, last week I was reading (for reasons I no longer remember) really old rumor columns about the genesis of “NYX.” Apparently the whole thing began as a Brian Wood project, a MAX X-Men book that Quesada and Jemas originally greenlit and then backed out of when they saw how it was developing. I knew that the unused stuff from the dropped project eventually became Wood’s “Demo,” but I did not know that one of the elements that freaked out Jemas and Quesada was the depiction of Rogue as a compulsive voyeur and an extensive collection of, shall we say, marital aids. So Nu Marvel almost, almost explored this ground a few years back. (For the curious, I think I found this rumor via the links in NYX’s Wikipedia entry.)

  3. lol, so for all intents and purposes and legal issue avoidance, do you want me to steer clear from this topic?

  4. I just don’t want to get an angry e-mail from your parents 🙂 Use your best judgement – hehe

  5. How young IS spidermav?

  6. 16. Probably the youngest user on the site.

Don’t worry. My best judgement is always in place (Except when I bought the first two issues of the re-named ‘Sensational Spider-Man’. Ugh.)

  7. “My best judgement is always in place (Except when I bought the first two issues of the re-named ‘Sensational Spider-Man’. Ugh.)”

Did I see the Puma on the cover of that this month?? Talk about age appropriateness; last time I saw Puma, he was fighting the Beyonder and spidermav was like -4.

  8. I dunno, I think a couple of teenagers who have yet to have their first kiss moving straight on to remote controlled sex toys is a big step, so I can see why that hasn’t happened, although with all their technological expertise i dont understand why the X-men couldn’t invent some kind of body suit that would protect them.

Similarly, it’s always annoyed me that the Proffessor goes around in a wheelchair. Surely he could just give Forge or someone a call and get a nifty pair of robo-legs.

    That’s why it’s called experimentation! 😉

  10. Maybe it’s just not in their budget.

I mean, sure the x-men have all sorts of money for danger rooms and jets, but just try being a 16 year old on a fixed income asking for extra money for….stuff. And that stuff’s not cheap either!

I think 30 year old Rogue and Iceman would obviously go there, but teenagers aren’t there yet.

  11. I just have a hard time thinking of Xavier taking some budget out and buying toys, plus, I don’t care how good the brocher is, ones parents get a sight of where the money’s going. No way are they letting the kids near that school.

  12. See? I have said for years that Buffy and Angel could’ve been together if they’d just … oh, 16. Mmmm. I don’t think I PG-13 this comment.

Frankly, if they would actually teach sex ed in schools, I wouldn’t have to try to figure out how to PG-13 my theory on how to keep Angel just this side of perfect happiness. *grins*

As for Bobby and Rogue, the Wired reporter covers it.

  13. Toga, PLEASE. Don’t censor anything on my account. Hell, i’m NO stranger to these kind of discussions.

And from you Toga? Why, they’re what make reading your posts so fun. SO CARRY ON!

  14. It’s not that I have issue with your age, love. But having been on the receiving end of a parent’s tirade about how “such discussions are not fit for my teenager” and having said parent threaten to shut down my friend’s site, I’m a little more skittish to share my comments.

It’s nothing personal. At sixteen, I wasn’t what you call worldly or wise, but I was eager to learn.

I’m glad you enjoy my comments; not as much as I enjoy yours however.
