PREVIEW: Steve Rogers Dons the Stars and Stripes for Fear Itself #4

Marvel has released an advance preview of July's Fear Itself #4. Following the tragic conclusion of issue #3, Steve is forced to once again take up the mantle from ol' Bucky. Meanwhile, Thor frightens bunnies with his return to Midgard.

Here's what Marvel had to say:

"The unthinkable has happened—Sin has dealt a crushing blow to Bucky Barnes, aka Captain America, unleashing her full fury on the Marvel Universe! With his country in flames, Steve Rogers enters the trenches, forcing the biggest decision of his entire life. And as the Marvel Universe hangs in the balance, Thor must finally confront The Serpent himself. Can the God of Thunder overcome the God of Fear, or will The Serpent prove that he is the one, true All-Father? The stakes have never been higher as the comic blockbuster event of the summer continues this July, only in FEAR ITSELF #4!"

Look for Fear Itself #4 by Matt Fraction and Stuart Immonen on July 20th.

Comments

  1. It had to happen. I really dug the Super-Soldier incarnation of the character, but this was destined to be.

  2. None to pleased.  Bucky is my Captain Amercia.

  3. bucky cap was fun but it’s time to get back to the real cap

  4. Bucky is so much more interesting than Stever Rogers.

I was hoping that was a permanent evolution of the character.

I have never found any interest in Rogers’ character what so ever.

  5. Don’t you find it odd that as soon as the cat was out of the bag that Steve was going to be the only Cap again that Bruce Wayne becomes the true Batman of Gotham again?

  6. About time. And yay! No stupid puches all over Steve’s belt.

  7. @neums
    Nope.

  8. This is like replacing vanilla bean ice cream with vanilla. Ostensibly the same, but one has flavor and complexity, and the other is bland and uninteresting.

  9. @PraxJarvin: Good analogy

  10. Hmmm I guess yay for the stupid pirate boots?

  11. The unthinkable has happened = You already knew we were going to do this.

Sin has dealt a crushing blow to Bucky Barnes, aka Captain America, unleashing her full fury on the Marvel Universe! = Yes, we killed Bucky. No, there was no real reason. We could have easily brought Captain America back for the summer blockbuster and given a new identity to Bucky but that would have made sense and here at Marvel we think sense is for losers.

With his country in flames, Steve Rogers enters the trenches, forcing the biggest decision of his entire life. = It’s Captain America. What, did you think he would stop being Captain America just because we introduced some silly conflict? Well, did ya?

And as the Marvel Universe hangs in the balance = Like any given Wednesday

Thor must finally confront The Serpent himself. Can the God of Thunder overcome the God of Fear, or will The Serpent prove that he is the one, true All-Father? = We know what you’re thinking: Yes, this is the end of the Marvel Universe as we know it. We’re locking the doors and going out for snowcones.

The stakes have never been higher = This storyline will not matter in any way whatsoever

as the comic blockbuster event of the summer continues this July, only in FEAR ITSELF #4! = Worry not! We won’t leave you with just one event though. Coming this August, MARVEL: WRITER’S BLOCK.

  12. Ah. Cap dons the Stars and Stripes and….wait, is the a hammer and sickle on his arm?!

    Dirty Commie

  13. Avatar photo Paul Montgomery (@fuzzytypewriter) says:

@krooze  Elbow crease shadow! Elbow crease shadow!

  14. That does look like a hammer and sickle now that you mention it.

I want that book! Captain America: Red Son.

  15. Steve is a better cap but Bucky’s suit was so much better whish steve could like wear it in his honour or somthing

  16. What could be more exciting or shocking than a return to the status quo since the 1940’s!

  17. My god, Immonen rules my face.

  18. @tschafer  I feel the same way with Barry Allen back as Flash and Hal Jordan back as Green lantern. these aren’t MY versions of the characters 🙁

  19. It’s weird i feel like Bucky was the real Cap….i guess Steve has to do.

  20. YAY!!!!!!! Steve Rogers is about to open a can of whoop ass on the God of Fear.

  21. I think this is the issue when this event really kicks in
