People of Midgard, Behold the THOR One-Sheet Poster!

Marvel just unveiled the official one-sheet poster for Kenneth Branagh's Thor film. And though it may lack all but one of the colors of the mighty rainbow bridge, it is surely the work of Asgardian craftsman. Or craftsgods.

Note the Nordic angst. Note the secretive sideways glance of a scorned prince. Note the heft of the miraculous and merciless hammer Mjolnir.

Strong. Graceful. Elegant. Only lacking in the swift hoofed goats Tanngrisnir and Tanngnjóstr by the thunder god's heels.

Thor graces this plane with his presence on May 6, 2011.

Comments

  1. Can’t wait.

  2. That looks rather awesome.

  3. What he said.

  4. I love the look of the armor.  It looks like rubberized metal.  While that sounds crazy here, it’s exactly what I picture from the magic/science of Asgard.

  5. Dramatic Lighting can sometimes make an image. This is fantastic, highlights the strength of the character and the subdued red lends it an air of regality. Sold on this movie like there’s no tomorrow.

  6. Not really a thor or GL fan but I gotta say I’m pretty stoked for the Thor movie

  7. i want to pet that bicep.

  8. When I was 2 years old I thought I was Thor. Literally. My hair was still blonde and I carried a hammer around. Not like a Thor hammer, but a real hammer-hammer. When I was 2. I made people call me Thor.

(This caused trouble with the NYPD at the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree lighting that year but that’s another story.)

  9. i feel guilty as a GL fan that im more excited for thor…..o well mighty avenger made me do it

  10. I say thee ole’!

  11. Denizens of Midgard. Denizens!

  12. This is awesome and should have been Wonder Woman. 🙁

  13. Really spectacular.  Love the “runic”-looking details on the hammer bevels.  Hope they CGI the hell out the of the action on that thing.

  14. verily !

  15. Huh…I guess I’m the only one who wants this pile to just come out and bomb so we can move on. The more I see on this the less I like it.

My hope is this thing bombs followed by Captain America. Then the studio will be contractually forced to make the ego train wreck that will be The Avengers and after that bombs we can FINALLY get our comics back and stop being forced to suck up to Hollywood.

And Ferry needs to stop drawing Thor to look like this guy. It’s annoying.

  16. @Zarathos81  Did someone from Hollywood come and take away your comics?

  17. wow did the Grinch hack Zarathos81’s iFanboy account?

  18. @Zarathos81  My comics are right here.  I can hear the floor creaking under the weight.  And you do realise none of the Marvel Studios films have bombed yet.  And why wish they would fail!  And how would that get my comics back even if someone had taken them.

    I’m confused.

    Verily!

  19. @Zarathos81 you’re such a outsider.  I’m so impressed.

But not as impressed as I am with this Awesome poster!

  20. Damn. Had to fight of those darn comic stealin’ Hollywood guys from my lawn with a shotgun, again. Get’s annoying.

  21. This film’s gonna be so good, the audience won’t applaud…

    …they’ll THUNDERCLAP.

  22. It feels inspired by Sin City.

    the Tiki

  23. What I love about this poster is the emphasis on the red cape, which is a great way to tell people that this is a superhero film so come watch and have some fun, but at the same time the grayscale really adds an element of seriousness. this is great.

  24. Really like the image here. The armor looks better in black and white rather than color. The armor in the color pics looks to much like rubber.

  25. I love how every one is ignoring @conor  story here.

  26. even though they went with Art Direction value meal #3 (generic teaser: insert superhero looking to the right+shadow)  its still a cool image. I like the red cape.

  27. He was awesome in Star Trek.

  28. Who know Sin City was one of the nine realms…

i kid because i love, but seriously how long until someone colors this and posts online. I saw the pic of Sinestro from the GL trailer given a Sinestro Corps costume about 2 hours after the trailer hit.

Im glad the Hammer looks metal. I always found it odd that in the comic it was usually drawn with a stone texture, despite Uru being called a meal, and in every Mjollnir origin story, its shown being forged, not chiseled.

  29. Looks good, bought to become my profile pic on FB!!

  30. Apparently the point has been misses. I expected it, it always seems like everytime these horrible things come out everyone is blinded by the hollywood glitz and glamor.
I suppose I should explain. When I said I hope these movies bomb and we can finally get our comics back I meant I want these movies to bomb, yes I want them to fail, so that our comics will be done for us and not for the hollywood suits who neither know about or care about these comics and their history.
I would rather have just my comics and maybe some of the animated things than a bunch of really bad movies. For every Iron man there’s a Catwoman, Ghost Rider, Fantactis Four, Blade, Man-Thing, Iron Man 2.
Im not trying to be an ‘outsider’ or be different because everyone else likes this, this is iFanboy not Newsarama, I’m just basically being the only one who sees this for what it is. It’s a bad movie. I did have hope for it and was, at one time, very excited about it. Then that 5 minute promo was released at ComiCon and my hopes to destroyed by the stupidity of Hollywood. Then more and more stuff started coming out and it just got worse.

Just voicing my opinion and calling it as I see it. If people like it, good for them. Me? I stopped watching these movies after Iron Man. I got tired of giving them chances and getting another Ghost Rider. I have my comics and I have some of the better animated features. Far as I’m concerened that’s all I need. These movies don’t help anyone but th ehollywood execs and I’m no longer intersted in being a part of that.

I really do want these movies to start bombing so they stop making them.

  31. @Zarathos81  How can you say it’s a bad movie when you haven’t seen a finished producted yet? I can understand not liking a direction the film is taking, but to judge it based on a teaser trailer and poseter seems pretty dumb. These movies won’t be going away anytime soon

  32. @Zarathos81  – Or maybe the point wasn’t missed, and was just disagreed with. Telling everyone they’re “blinded by the hollywood glitz and glamour” seems a dangerous accusation. Could be that others just aren’t looking at it like you.

I do think it’s a bit suspect that you watched 5 minutes of footage and that gives you the ability to declare “It’s a bad movie.” I saw the footage and thought it could be a very fun movie. I just watched the new trailer and thought the same thing.

But… You also seem to be putting forward a premise that you need to “get your comics back” from Hollywood. And that’s just untrue. I can see that there’s more synergy now between Iron Man comics and the Iron Man movie. I can see that may be happening a bit with Thor. The quality of these comics have NOT gone down because of the movies. In fact, I’d argue that the Iron Man movie has helped Marvel to figure out a better, streamlined approach to the Iron Man comics. But at the same time, the current Iron Man series is completely using plenty of comics continuity, including the aftermath of events like Civil War.

So, no, I don’t buy the premise that Hollywood needs to fail for the betterment of comic books. It’s not an either/or proposition.

  33. And more on point: I think the one-sheet looks good. Stark, minimalist and bold… well-lit, good use of color. Thumbs up.

  34. @Zarathos81  “These movies don’t help anyone but the Hollywood execs”

Excellent point because comic books are curing the world of cancer and hunger and these movies are getting in the way of that!

Your point is analogous to saying that sports movies devalue sports, and that is just silly.  If you do not like the movies, don’t go to see them.  And remember what Josh said, ‘negativity too damn high’!

  35. That cape looks so thick and luxurious, and the hammer does look good with the filigree on the diagonal sides.

  36. This And GL Are Going To Be Amazing !!!!!!!

  37. @daccampo  It’s funny…I’m asked this a lot ‘how can you say it’s a bad movie if you’ve never seen it’ and I always have to remind my friends that I trust my gut. I knew Fantastic Four was going to be crap, same with Ghost Rider. I was right. I’m the same way with remakes, I don’t watch them because 9 times out of 10 they will suck and yet they go see them and always come back and tell me I was right. It’s not a knee-jerk reaction, not in the least, I pay attention to what I’m seeing and I take my opinion and the opinions of those nearest me into consideration but it’s mostly I just know.
The Green Lantern trailer, for example, is embarassing. When it played before Harry Potter people laughed. I was embarassed as was my friend who’s a huge GL fan.
As for Thor, considering what they did with Tony Stark, basically making him a college kid with loads of money, a walking punchline, I can assume they will do the same with Thor. There is evidence of this in the trailer.
I won’t go see it, I can promise you that, I won’t support it and will hope it fades away quickly.

I understand the need to react to statemenst such as mine with ‘let’s take it apart’ replies but these movies don’t help. I’ve never said comics are curing cancer and that’s taking it to a realm we don’t need to be in. It also ignores the point of the statement these movies only benefit Hollywood suits. These movies rarely respect the source material and the fans who supported these characters for decades and never promote the comics they are laughingly based on. My loyalties are to the comics industry not Hollywood who fails on nearly every attempt to give us live action movies based on comics. Bad writing, bad casting….and 3D.

I stand by what I say and I want to be clear on one point: my criticisms are leveled entirely on the movies and not the fans of them. I’ll mock and criticize these things but will never mock those who, for one reason or another, like them. I’ll try to help them understand my POV on this. I’m posting these opinions here because ther are other boards where the ‘fans’ are so ignorant they can only call names and act like high school rejects when you dare to disagree with them.

  38. @Zarathos81  The movies don’t just benefit Hollywood suits. They benefit the comic book companies (why do youy think Marvel formed Marvel Studios – they make A LOT of money on these movies), in certain cases they benefit the creators, and they benefit any person who watches and enjoys them. They benefit me greatly, personally and professionally.

  39. @Zarathos81 – I think the major point of contention here might be your call for the end of these movies. If you don’t like them, that’s all well and good, and you absolutely don’t have to see them. Wishing they would bomb and stop coming out is a bit much, as many other really enjoy them (not all of them, mind you) and they really do benefit the comics industry, if only by helping to keep Marvel in the black.

If you don’t like ’em, don’t watch ’em. Your comics are still there… in large part, thanks to these movies!

Oh, and pointing out that some of the movies are bad is not an effective argument for the dismantling of the genre. That’s like saying we should stop reading books because of Stephanie Meyer.

AWESOME poster, by the way! How epic is this movie gonna be? My guess is mad epic!

  40. @Zarathos81  –are you the type that gets mad when you’re favorite indie band gets a larger following? that somehow its not as special anymore now that more people are enjoying something that was considered obscure to you? Thats kind of what your argument reminds me of.
