M.A.S.K. to be Re-Released

I am not a nostalgic man. I don't need to relive my childhood, but I confess to a slight stirring on this announcement, leading me to be entirely transported back to my young self, however brielfly.

Come back with me:

Masked crusaders, working overtime
Fighting crime, fighting crime
Secret raiders who will neutralize
As soon as they arrive, at the site
Trakker’s gonna lead the mission
And Spectrum’s got such super vision
M-M-M-M-MASK!
Is the mighty power that can save the day
M-M-M-M-MASK!
No one knows what lies behind the masquerades
M-M-M-M-MASK!
Always riding hot on VENOM’s trail
Come see the laser rays
Fire away

Shout! Factory and FremantleMedia Enterprises have announced their deal to bring back M.A.S.K., and 80's cartoon and toy machine, to your home. It should be said that I remember very little about the cartoon, but the names Matt Trakker, Bruce Sato, and Miles Mayhem are forever seared on my brain.

Although I think there are definite aerodynamic drawbacks to a gullwing camaro that might make it a little hard to fly.

There's no date attached to what form the releases will take or when exactly that is, but before you know it, you'll be able to introduce your incredibly uninterested children to the global battle between the Mobile Armored Strike Kommand and the Vicious Evil Network of Mayhem. That is a very straightford name, by the way.

Comments

  1. LOVED M.A.S.K!!!

  2. I ADORED this show when i was a kid, but if you’re thinking of picking up this set, be cautious. unfortunately this show does not hold up very well today.

    Fantastic toys though

  3. Awesome! I need to call my parents and se if they still have my toys.  I think I even had a comic back in the day…

  4. i barely remember this show, but i know i enjoyed it. My next door neighbor (who had a female mullet) had a red IROC Camarro like that one in the show and i always used to day dream about it getting some gull wings and flying.

  5. I was more of a C.O.P.S. and Dinosaucers man myself.

I still think this is one of the best directed opening intros of all time.

  6. I loved the toys, but don’t remember the show at all.

  7. Mostly I remember the asian co-pilot of the big 18 wheeler.  He would always say, “LIFTER, ON!” and could levitate things with his mask.

The motorcycle guy was my favorite though….i think he could make holograms of himself…or something…

  8. @THEHOCHE  BRUCE SATO! He drove R.H.I.N.O..

  9. My most favorite toys ever! The cartoon aired i think when I was a baby but my older brothers had the toys and I kept buying more at flea markets when I was growing up.

  10. FINALLY!!!  The one show that hasn’t been released yet!

  11. Toys were cool, but locally the show never aired. I have seen about 2 episodes.

  12. That is a very straightford name, by the way.” Awesome.

  13. dusting off the green motorcycle/helicopter right now

  14. I had the guy with the sunglasses who rode Condor:  Also known as the motorcycle-helo.  It was awesome.  Why did Matt Tracker have like 6 masks depending on which vehicle he was driving when every other guy had one??  I also remember Hondo McClain.  He was the John Stewart of MASK.  His 57 Chevy got crushed and they replaced it with…I can’t remember that part.

  15. The theme song has been in my iPod for years…Awesome show back in the day, but like someone else said it doesn’t hold up very well.

  16. The green motorcycle/helicopter was Brad, he was a rock star and his helmet was able to make holograms!. I remember I always tried to find little clues in the opening song to see if he would be in the episode (there was never any differance). Brad was the best.

  17. As for “uninterested children,” my wife and Netflix Instant have proven to my chagrin that kids too young to know any different will get completely engrossed by Care Bears and Rainbow Brite. It’s all new to them.

  18. I loved this as a kid…who am I kidding still do. This and Star Wars are the only toys to have survived in tact through childhood. I picked up a bunch of the comics cheap at a Con not too long ago. I also saw some original Curt Swan art on eBay from the comic recently. Wow, I think I just geeked out…

I always did love when they interrupted ‘real-life’ with the MASK watch signal.

  19. Fun Fact: the Bruce Springsteen lyric “The highway’s jammed with broken heroes on a last chance power drive” actually reffers to broken down 80’s M.A.S.K. cars

  20. Not a good series. I’m just saying. Exactly who was asking for this to released?

  21. @WilliamKScurryJr  Me!

  22. Well, I liked back then. Im sure a decent writer can make this premise work. Cmon! Its masks that have different special power thingy! Its gotta be cool! And vehicles that transform into something else. Maybe if they set it in the future… anime style or CG? Or real live actors… dont know which is best. Dont care, we will eat up whatever we are served. Or not.

  23. I’m still waiting for Inhumanoids to get its due.

  24. YES!!!! Loved this show growing up, still remember playing with my Rhino and Condor action figures (the purple kenworth truck with working missles and the green heli-bike). Good to see they are bringing back some of the classics, sick of pokemon and all the other garbage they produce these days. Now all we need back is he-man 🙂

  25. this is such awesome news!  i’ve been wanting this for YEARS!  i may have to take boulder hill and the rest of my toy arsenal out of storage for old times sake!  ðŸ™‚

  26. I will gleefully purchase this show as I seem to do with many old cartoons i loved if only to share them with my girlfriend so she gets my obscure references.

@ResurrectionFlan the day they re-release dinosaucers will be my happiest day since the re-released transformers.  And I just bought a DVD at shnucks the other day of 10 episodes of C.O.P.S.

  27. I have to admit that I rarely watched the show, but I was crazy about the toys! I had almost the entire collection… The “Piranha” motorcycle with an ejectable submarine sidecar was sort of random, but I loved the “Switchblade” helicopter that turned into a jet!

  28. This is one of those things that I completely forgot about until I saw this article.  I don’t remember the cartoon at all, but I love the toys, especially the motorcycle that became a helicopter (if I’m remembering that right).

  29. I should have written “loved,” not “love.”  I didn’t mean that to be in the present tense.

  30. I own a number of the original VHS episodes. they are AWESOME. Especially if you love T-Bob

  31. Shout Factory is building a decent little library, I have to say. I just picked up the complete ReBoot a month ago.

  32. I also loved the toys.  Clearly a minority opinion here.  Watching that intro… boy, the designs on some of those vehicles are ugly.  And they straight up turned R2D2 into a scooter, didn’t they?  (AND… could that song BE any more 80’s?)
