Light Week? Try Witchfinder Lost and Gone Forever #1, Daytripper, and She-Hulks #4

Okay, we know it's another ridiculously light week. So give some of these a try..

Witchfinder Lost and Gone Forever #1

By Mike Mignola, John Arcudi, John Severin and Dave Stewart

The other day, I was reading some old issues of The 'Nam, and in the middle of the (very good) issue, I thought to myself, "hey this looks like John Severin." So I flipped back to the credits and was very glad to see that I was right. But more, I was glad that I got to read some Severin. The guy is a legend in the purest sense of the word. Way, way back, we spoke with John Arcudi, and he mentioned doing a story with Severin, but that it was a long way out, because Severin gets to take his time. We're cool wtih that. But, here it is. Occult western from the BPRD team, with art by John Severin. Yes, yes, yes.

Daytripper TPB

By Gabriel Ba & Fabio Moon

One of the best mini-series of last year, Daytripper by the brothers Gabriel Ba and Fabio Moon is an amazing work of comics that I wish everyone would give a shot and read.  Tales of love and loss and triumph and disappointment, all distilled down into 10 individual, emotional stories that are told with such elegance, it will blow your mind.  We all know how talented Ba and Moon are as comic artists, but Daytripper establishes them clearly as comics storytellers.

She-Hulks #4

By Harrison Wilcox, Ryan Stegman, Michael Babinski, Guru-eFX, & Ed Dukeshire

One of the subplots of this story has been Lyra's attempts to fit into life at her Earth high school while also maintaining her secret identity as (the other) She-Hulk. She's got a dance coming up and it looks like the She-Hulk might be out of the bag. Yes, yes — it's the last issue of the series-turned-mini-series. But no matter! Check out the fun you've missed this whole time, and then after you do, go buy the trade. You can thank me later.

Comments

  1. Wish I could justify buying Daytripper in trade so I could have it on a shelf instead of a longbox… Definitely worth a re-read sooner than later.

  2. I wish I could read Daytripper for the first time again. Love that book.

  3. Is it really a ridiculous week for everyone else?  I buy about 50 monthly books and I only have 6 this week.  Anyway, I’ll be picking up Daytripper.  I really wish it got the hardcover treatment, though.

  4. @lifesend  Seriously, man.  I’ve only got two.  I’m always up for a good indie book, but not finding anything and not sure I’m up for a BPRD mini yet.  I’m inches away from starting on the first hardcover.

  5. @lifesend I agree, Daytripper would’ve made for a fantastic hardcover. That said, it’s great to see this in one collection instead of split into two five-issue books. Between this and the two-book edition of The Losers, Vertigo has been putting out a gret amount of bang for the buck in thier collected editions lately.

  6. @misterckent  It’s not a BPRD book. It’s a perfect jumping on book.

  7. I’m going to be picking up Witchfinder becuase of Paul’s interview with Arcudi. I want some western comics. may also pick up jonah hex because i’m late to the party.

    @WeaklyRoll  Woooo!

  9. After purchasing the $1 first issue of Daytripper, I new it was going to have a high re-read factor, so I held off for this trade. I can’t wait for tomorrow.

  10. I can’t recommend Datripper enough. Believe the hype. I’ve read it all, and will still be buying the tpb. Everyone is always talking about finding books to lend out to non-comic reading friends. This is a great book for that.

I know this is the end of the She-Hulks mini. What do you guys think are the chances they do another mini? Could tpb success help?

  11. @j206  Doubtful on any more She-Hulks books; very doubtful.

  12. The sales are THAT bad? They keep doing Hawkeye & Mockingbird mini’s. Too bad that a fun, under the radar book like this basically has no chance from the get go.

  13. @j206  According to ICv2, in December She-Hulks #2 sold 14,673 copies and Widowmaker #1 sold 18,245 copies.

  14. Hmm. I guess 3,500 more copies is 3,500 more copies. But they both seem to fall into the same category to me. Maybe McCann has more clout. Still, too bad. I really liked She-Hulks. Wish it could’ve at least got a Power Girl-esque run before getting the boot.

  15. You’d think that on a ridiculously light week people would check out something new like the H20 one-shot or Daomu #1, but they have hardly any pulls.

  16. I have a rather light week, so I am getting the Daytripper trade. Very excited!

  17. @deadspace, i’m on the fence about H2O; the preview looks good, but if it’s a one-shot i might just get it.

  18. @deadspace  I’ll be picking up both and also hope that others do the same.  Dynamite published another good one-shot mini-trade not long ago called Untouchable and now there’s H2O.  I don’t know how long they’ve been publishing these one-shots or how many more are coming up, but I think it’s a great idea and will certainly be on the look-out for any more they release in the future.

  19. FYI, the Severin art with Dave Stewart colors does not even begin to disappoint. Wow.

  20. First Time I’m picking something from “Light Week?”, but I’m going for Daytripper. I like the concept and the many positive reactions make me feel like I’m missing out on something great.

  21. Got Daytripper TB and was fortunate that the store had copies of “Twilight Guardian” left!
