Light Week? Try Baltimore Plague Ships HC, American Vampire: Survival of the Fittest #1, and Empowered Special #2

There's all this news about books that will be out months from now, but what do you pick up this week when you feel a wanting?

Baltimore: The Plague Ships HC Vol. 1

By Mike Mignola, Christopher Golden, and Ben Stenbeck

I made the fifth issue my Pick of the Week, and all the issues were sublime, and if you noticed any of those, you probably said, "I'll go back and get the trade." The time is now! Baltimore is a grizzled WWI veteran who likes to kill vampires and not much else. It's beautiful, haunting and moody, and just great comics from the mind of Mike Mignola and his partners. This was one of the best minis of 2010, and it belongs on your shelf. Dave Stewart colors always look great in hardcover!

American Vampire: Survival of the Fittest #1

By Scott Snyder & Sean Murphy

I've been loving the current arc in Amecrican Vampire dealing with World War II and a vampire nest in the Pacific theater. So now we'r getting a spin-off mini-series also set in World War II, this time in Romania, and drawn by Joe the Barbarian artist Sean Murphy? Sign me up!

Ron says try:

Empowered Special #2: Ten Questions for the Maidman

By Adam Warren, Emily Warren

Anytime there's new Empowered on the comic racks, we need to stop and take notice.  It may not be the next volume of the fantastic series by Adam Warren, but any bit of Empowered is enough for me.  This special issue promises to deliver more of the tongue-in-cheek, naughty fun that can only be brought by Empowered, especially if it's more Maidman, one of the underrated characters of the Empowered universe. I know that by reading this issue, I'm guaranteed to have fun this week.
