Jock Makes Batman and Detective Comics Pretty

This doesn't really need any description does it?

Detective Comics #871 is out on November 24.

Comments

  1. is this the cover? i would assume so, but assuming has gotten me in trouble before.

And this is a great shot of Dick as Batman. No fear, no "net" and that holding the cap in instead of holding it out, not only lets us see his acrobat/aerilist style, but really says, this isn’t bruce wayne. i love it!

  2. Fantastic cover.

But his interiors will not even look that nearly impressive. It’ll be good, but not ‘holy shit, I want to buy hundreds of copies of that’ good like I’m seeing this thing now.

  3. @TNC: Hate to break it to you but that’s an interior page, according to Scott Snyder.

  4. @TNC: Actually, according to Jock.

  5. @conor: I retract that statement then.

  6. might have to actually buy a batman book. . .  for the art

  7. This is both "Hell" and "Yes".

  8. Gorgeous, so dynamic.

  9. …Is that the Space Needle?

  10. OMG this is amazing,  I almost want no text or no colors on it its so good. Trade waiting for this run is going to be a real challenge.

  11. *Drool*

  12. HOLY CATS!

  13. Haven’t been reading comics for a whole hell of a long time, but I think thats the first time that I’ve seen Batman hold down his cape so that he plummets instead of glides. It makes Batman just come to life. Amazing!

  14. I hope everyone understood that drooling was a positive response. I don’t want Josh to use his karate skills on me.

  15. I believe "hummanahummanahummana" sums it up.

  16. Man that looks pretty its going to be hard to trade wait this.

  17. Amazing.  I lack enough superlative adjectives.

  18. Wait til you see the rest of the pages 🙂 And you’re right, WeaklyRoll – we were trying to give Dick that free-fall feel to echo his circus skills but also the sky-diving element from Pete Tomasi’s Nightwing run. Jock was born to draw Batman. Feel very lucky.

  19. Dudes, it’s my new background on the desktop.  That is awesome.

  20. Week after my birthday, what a great gift!

  21. its always refreshing to see an artists work before it gets so heavily "processed" with coloring and lettering. Its so raw and pure…gotta love it.

  22. not bad, jock, not bad

  23. *spit-take*

    Okay. Fine. Subbed.

  24. ME

    WANT

  25. scratches the Jock itch

  26. @unclebob I knew that was coming at some point:)

His art is so fucking amazing.  I’ve loved his work since the first time I saw it.

  27. Thats interior? DAMN! Just really makes me wish that he was doing the interior for Daredevil: Reborn as well as the covers.

  28. he always seems to bring a story up a notch…..  I don’t think Detective Comics suffered in the least when it went from JH Williams to Jock….   and I wouldn’t have enjoyed that Hellblazer OGN as much

  29. they should give him an Earth One book

  30. Might pick up the trade purely for the art.

  31. Tomasi’s run on Nightwing is one of my favorites ever. The fact that they are referencing it makes me insanely happy

  32. Jock on Batman makes me happy.

  33.  *slow clap*

  34. MEH

    (kidding)

  35. Don’t get me wrong, this art is BAMF, but….. i feel like we should be seeing at least a LITTLE bit of his legs?… its just off in the anatomical or balance department. Just a little. Don’t hate me.

  36. ME WANT THIS BOOK NOW!!!

  37. Rucka was sweeet on Detective. Gave Hine 2 issues; dropped it. I will be jumping back on once Snyder & Jock jump on.

  38. This looks amazing.  If I haven’t read much batman lately would this be an alright jumping on point?

  39. I like the art, but reading the solicits just hasn’t grabbed me at all, and don’t know a ton about Snyder. Trying to decide whether to give this a chance. *ponders*

  40. The answer is yes.

  41. Avatar photo Paul Montgomery (@fuzzytypewriter) says:

"I like the actual previews of the book, but the PR copy describing it isn’t my cup of tea." 😉

Josh had a chat with Snyder on Talksplode a few weeks back. Check that out and you can make a more informed decision.
