Instant Buy: Flex Mentallo Hardcover on the Way!

With few details and no art, Vertigo has announced that the long out-of-print and disputed Flex Mentallo will come to shelves in deluxe hardcover form this fall.  The 4 issue mini-series, written by Grant Morrison and drawn by Frank Quitely, was published in 1996, as a spin-off from the character's appearence in Doom Patrol

The core of the conflict had to do with Mentallo's similarity to Charles Atlas, the sand-kicking workout hero from classic comic book ads.  The Charles Atlas company filed a lawsuit, which was dismissed, but DC still haven't reprinted the series. Until now.

If I was a betting man, I wouldn't be surprised to see this as a Book of the Month in the upcoming year.  I'm very excited to get my hands on it and get reading.  It'll probably make me a better man.

  6. Cool!

  7. Doesn’t it being Grant Morrison older comics put this on the automatic don’t buy list?

  10. Sweet. I’ve got Morrison’s DOOM PATROL series in trade and now I can add this next to it on the shelf. Very exciting!

  12. Another clue that the world will be ending in 2012! Read this comic, for it will be your last!

  13. Excellent.

One of the best htings about this new regime at DC is that they are getting stuff out into print that wasn’t before. That’s a good thing.

  14. Great news. Fingers crossed we get a Zenith collection too and all you American readers will get to read one of his best works.

  15. Awesome! Very. very excited for this,

  16. This is a great great book, really eager to have it legally!

  17. I’m super stoked. I’m now going through the Morrison Doom Patrol and connecting to it, I was dreading coming up to the Flex Mentallo part of it and missing this miniseries which I’m sure adds to the greatness of Doom Patrol. Good job DC!

  18. Such great news. I always regret the day I passed this up having seen it on the new release rack in the late 90s.  Who knew it would go on to become one of those unobtainable masterpieces?

  19. I only have issue #1 of the original run, so I hope to read this soon!

  20. Sold!

  21. Does this mean my issues will be worth less?

  22. I’m not the biggest fan of Morrison when he gets super trippy, but I will find a way to read it because I love the art.  Who knows:  I may just like it.

  23. Yes! Hope this trend will continue. Especially hoping for the rest of Milligan’s SHADE THE CHANGING MAN run in trades.

  24. The Flex mini has really nothing to do with Doom Patrol, its a stand alone story. But it is a great read and I can’t wait for it to come out.

  25. Bwah ha ha ! I have the originals ! I laugh in the face of your hard cover, and kick beach sand at your absolute edition
