“…in the latest issue of Marvel Comics…”

I happened upon this story from the Associated Press today, regarding the upcoming funeral of Captain America. But, as I hinted at in the headline, they didn’t mention in which book it takes place. Nowhere in the article does it say the words Fallen Son.

But apparently, we get to hear the unheard Falcon eulogy.

So it seems possible that said eulogy was supposed to come out the same week as Captain America #26, as opposed to DC’s able handing of concurrent events over in the other universe.

So I guess this is somewhat good press. Maybe?

  1. Man, that eulogy has a lot to live up to.

What worries me more (though maybe “worries” is a bit too extreme, but nonetheless) is that Brubaker made a point not to show the speech or funeral on purpose, and this was done before Fallen Son was even conceived.

  3. I think he didn’t show the speech because it was originally intended to come out in a Fallen Son issue that same week.

At least that would make sense. Otherwise, he would have put the speech in there.

I know he didn’t plan on a 3 month hiatus, but who knows when that part of the script was written.

But yeah, either way, Loeb better make me cry at this point. The iPhone is about the only thing with more buildup.

  4. “…in the latest issue of Marvel Comics…”

Hmm, what AP reporter knows nothing about comics and is just working from a press release?

  5. Why in the world would anybody want to read a eulogy in a comic book. Boring or just yuk….

  6. Why is Carol wearing her mask and why is T’challa in his cat costume? And who is the 6th pall bearer, and if it’s Petey, is he balding now? I have many questions about this, and — T’challa! stop clawing the casket! (Oops sorry, wrong topic.)

  7. Hopefully, it well written and Cap is getting the send off he deserves..

  8. When Spider-Man got married, they staged a real ceremony in, I think, Yankee Stadium. So when I read the headline “Marvel Comics Buries Captain America,” my first thought was, “Oh, that’s just tacky.”

  9. Dont know about Carol, but T’Challa’s costume is the formal dress for the ruler of Wakanda. So it would be like if the Queen of England fought crime….in her royal vestments….all the time.

Shea Stadium, and yeah, I had the same reaction.

  11. So did this funeral take place in the missing year? I’m so confused.

  12. I actually read this issue already. I won’t spoil it. I will say that the eulogy is in it. It’s a pretty good issue. It has nothing in it that will generate a lot of interest in it like Rich Johnston is saying that it will in LITG.

  13. I liked it a bit better when it seemed like he made a great speech but you never saw it (from Cap America 27) so I interested to see if this is going to kick ass.

  14. It has nothing in it that will generate a lot of interest in it like Rich Johnston is saying that it will in LITG.

    What Johnston said:

I understand that the “Iron Man: Fallen Son” will receive a considerable degree of US media coverage… We’re not quite talking “Captain America” #25, but we’re certainly talking “Gay Batwoman.”

I’d say that having this article on the front page of Yahoo! (which it was) is probably what he was talking about or what his source was implying. I doubt we’ll see it on CNN like we did with Batwoman, though. Too many things going on in the world this week.

  15. This is hilarious. Apparently the BIG SUPER SECRET SPOILER is that there is a funeral for Captain America.

Yeah I read that thinking it was going to reveal someone as the new Cap, Cap waking up in the coffin or something of that magnitude.

I’m honestly surprised to see that it even made Yahoo. Cap died. There would be a funeral. Where’s the surprise?

I took this initially to mean that something cool was going to happen. It’s the reason that I went through the trouble of getting my hands on it early.
