IDW Shakes Things Up with Darwyn Cooke’s PARKER: THE HUNTER & THE OUTFIT Martini Edition

You. Yeah.

You telling me you missed out on Darwyn Cooke's critically acclaimed Parker graphic novels? Well guess what, Sputnik head. IDW's giving them the deluxe treatment in July's Parker: The Martini Edition. For crime comic fans and lowlifes like you, this one's a must.

Parker: The Martini Edition combines the two existing Parker books–The Hunter and The Outfit–in an oversized slipcase hardcover. The original editions clock in at around 6" x 9". This new one ratchets it up to 9" x 13". In addition to the growth spurt, we're also looking at 65 pages of additional material. This likely includes The Man With the Getaway Face, Cooke's prelude to The Outfit. At 24 pages, that would account for less than half of the bonus material. Just sayin'.

Here's IDW with the rap sheet:

"Parker: The Martini Edition will be a very special collection in that it will also feature an expansive section of sketches and preliminaries by the artist, with commentary accompanying. Also included is a brand-new 8-page Parker story by Darwyn Cooke, unique to this volume."

So, you ready to pony up?

July. 75 clams, retail. 344 pages all flapping together.

It's a beautiful thing.

  1. Now I wish I didn’t own all that individually …

    Well, technically you don’t.

  3. Isn’t The Man wit the Getaway face integrated into the Outfit?

  4. @Prax, I believe it is (if that’s the one with the diner scene)

I don’t have hunter, but this may be something that would be worth repurchasing the outfit.

    @PraxJarvin  No one really knows.

  6. OMFG!

  7. Hopefully this “Absolute Edition” has the obligatory bookmark ribbon.

    @jackietam  IDW’s good about that.

  9. Only part of Getaway Face is in The Outfit.

  10. I haven’t gotten The Hunter or The Outfit yet, now I’m glad I didn’t! 😀

  11. Damn it.  I have both now.  Poop.

  12. There’s nothing with double dipping. I live in NY, we’re quite liberal about that.

  13. I believe there is only 1 page from ‘Getaway Face’ not reprinted in The Outfit, so maybe they’ll include that in some fashion.

  14. @Simps  Is that one page the cover of mine that was signed by Darwyn? Because that’s not in my Outfit book.

See, that was just jerky of me.

Awesome! Kinda glad I held off on these books now. You have been added to the Wish List, Parker!

  16. cool…i always loved the large scale of the preview editions. I might have to double dip on this..

  17. I really don’t like buying books I already own twice, but this collection just might be worth it.

  18. This is awesome! My public library system is great about getting new comics so I usually read the graphic novels that way and but later. Haven’t picked up either Parker book yet, so I’m very excited for this one!

  19. I have the Hunter, don’t have The Outfit yet I may have to spring for this instead.

  20. Holy smokes.  I have both books already, but I may just have to snag a copy of this.  It’s not a bad thing to have more oversized Darwyn in the collection.

  21. I would rather they announce a 3rd book than announce a new format.

    The Tiki

  22. Well, having both books and read both – hopfully this will entice others to read… I’d double dip if I had the $$$

  23. Nice! I’m all about having these in larger size. IDWs deluxe books are always a treat.

  24. Throwing this out there: Book of the Month of July/August ’11

  25. I think I might take this oppurtunity to give all the seperate pieces to my dad and get this for myself.

  26. I have never been happier to double dip for Cooke. The way I see it: Home edition and travel editions. Plus, I would never never never lend out the big one.

  27. @thefreakytiki  I’m with you Tiki.  This is EXACTLY what I hate in a reprint of material I already have.  They add in 8 pages of new stuff so I either rebuy 2 GNs that I supported the 1st time around to get 8 pages, or I skip it and miss out on some new Darwyn Cooke.

I’m kind of disappointed in IDW for pulling this stunt.

I like seeing sketchbooks, scripts, etc. in a collected edition, but NOT new comic material “available nowhere else”.

It just encourages me to NOT buy materail when it is first solicited.

  28. What that cover needs is some sparse lettering love, not Snell roundhand. Why is there not not hand lettering like The Outfit? So much more sex appeal. Ah well, could be worse. IDW makes nice-nice with the special editions so I’m sure I wil pick it up.
