Frank Quitely Meets He-Man & The Masters of the Universe

There's certain things that seem worlds apart until you bring them together. Rock and Roll. Peanut Butter and Jelly. And Now Frank Quitely and He-Man.

Although the above image isn't new, it's new for people who didn't see it the first time around. Grade-A illustrator Frank Quitely did this as an incentive cover for the 2004 relaunch of the Masters of the Universe series published by long-time He-Man fan and comics creator Val Staples' MVC Creations.

Quitely's next major project is a stint on the long-awaited Multiversity series from DC and Grant Morrison, with the Scottish artist reportedly working on a story involving Captain Marvel.

  2. very cool

  3. Frank Quitely draws my dreams.

  4. If only I could show this to myself when I was 6 years old. Wow, this is rad…

  5. Ok. What were the names of the lizard man and Skeletor’s cat? I know the rest but I can’t remember them.

  6. @stuclach Mine too!

Every time i think if Quietly for a project I always ask myself if he is the right fit, and once i see his work on that project I am constantly reminded that he can do no wrong.

  8. I… love this. I wish I could marry it in Massachusetts.

  9. @RobotZombie  the other is Clawful

  10. Just to correct/clarify, Frank Quitely isn’t working on the Captain Marvel issue of multiversity (Thunder World, it’s called). That’s being handled by one of his heavily influenced artists, Cameron Stewart.

No, Quitely is doing the Charlton character issue of the book, which is using the original Charlton characters and doing a sort of hyper detailed, recursive homage to Watchmen (which, as I’m sure everyone knows, was originally meant to happen with those Charlton characters).

That’s why both of them keep talking about how complex it’s going to be. There are going to be all these little hints and layers and symmetries, just like in Watchmen itself.

    Yeah, it’s pretty exciting.

  11. Damn I was hoping he would be doing a new series.  Great image though.

  12. not a fan of quitely but this isnt half bad.

  13. Can we have IDW pick the rights for He-Man and get Quitely to do the art? I wouldn’t even care if J.T. Krul writes the comic I will buy it for the art.

  14. @TheNextChampion I am 100% down with this plan

  15. I love The Masters of the Universe franchise enough that I’d suffer through Quitely’s art.

  16. @TheNextChampion  Write it up. We’re making that happen!!!!!!!

  17. There is something undeniable about Quitely’s art.

I like it.  Sometimes I like it a lot.

But like anything that’s collaborative it needs to be the right pairing.

I am on board with this as long as he-man doesn’t lok all doughy and pudgy.

  18. How many months do you think it took?

    I kid! GREAT!
